writing THE DEEP OF HIM

writing THE DEEP OF HIM

“I have failed the sea,” she whispers.

“Oh, dear Princess… haven’t we all?”

— The Deep of Him (The Sea of Her 4)

Dear Weepers of Pearls and Wild Strangers from the Sea,

If you happen to follow me on social media, you probably already know this… but last week I’ve begun working on the fourth book of The Sea of Her series, entitled THE DEEP OF HIM ❤️

I thought it would be fun to dedicate a blog post to tell you all a bit more about the writing process of this manuscript, such as what is currently inspiring me and how it feels to me to be working on this book 🙂

Shall we dive in?

Since book 3, THE TIDE OF HER, isn’t published yet, I can’t go into details as that would mean giving away a lot of spoilers (and nobody likes spoilers!), but I think it’s safe to say that going into the second half of the series (as this is book 4 out of 6) is pretty intense.

To be honest, as I was taking notes of all my ideas for THE DEEP OF HIM over the last summer while also working on the plot outline, filling out the details and deciding where the story would take the characters, I was equally excited and a little bit worried about where it was going.

Although the first three books certainly have some darker themes going on, there was also room for a lot of magic and (most of all!) romance. It made them quite relaxing projects to work on for me, as my characters actually had a chance to take a breather from time to time and even enjoy some cozy scenes, such as Leilani working in the restaurant, or her and Keanu exploring Hibiscus Island by visiting other towns and spending lazy afternoons in beautiful forests.

THE DEEP OF HIM, however, feels much grittier as it explores the darker themes that were mostly hinted at in the first books, forcing Leilani and Keanu into situations neither wants to be in, confronting them with choices of life and death. This made me a little apprehensive at first, as I wondered if this book would fit the other three and would answer the readers’ expectations (yes, you guys!).

But as I wrote the first few chapters last week and as I’ve been working on the manuscript this week as well… I’ve come to the realization there’s nothing to worry about. Leilani’s and Keanu’s characters are bound to grow and evolve, that’s what series are for after all — yet they still feel like the same persons to me, and the things they’ll be going through in this book have been inevitable from the very start.

The funny thing is, I was worried about the very same thing when I worked on book 2, since it has way more action than the first and also felt a lot darker to me — yet the reviews and responses I’ve received so far for this book have been nothing but enthusiastic, as many readers even said they enjoyed THE WAVES OF HIM even more than THE SEA OF HER, while already loving that one.

Working on THE DEEP OF HIM is absolutely awesome. I’m enjoying myself so much, because the chapters are filled with tension and shadows. The writing flow has been amazing from the very first day I began working  on it — today is the fourth day of writing, and I’ve already finished 15 chapters. Need I say more? 😉

Even though The Sea of Her series isn’t “Halloweenish” at all, this time of the year is certainly inspiring me, mostly because of the book’s darker atmosphere that just suits the autumn season so well.

But let’s talk about my other great source of inspiration when it comes to writing: MUSIC ❤️

To let you guys get a feel for this book, I’d like to share two tracks which I’ve been listening to non-stop while writing the first chapters! The first one has a bit of a sci-fi vibe going on, which may seem like an odd choice for me since The Sea of Her has not a single sci-fi element in it (how could it, if it’s a Paranormal Romance book, right?), yet the mood is simply perfect. The second track is a more tragic one, which I feel fits Leilani pretty well 🙂

I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do~

It’s time for me to wrap up this blog post, and get back to work on THE DEEP OF HIM 😉 I’m really enjoying the writing process (the flow is just magical), and super excited to see where this journey will take Leilani and Keanu — even if it leads them to the darker side of their world. I’m sure they’ll only come out of it stronger ❤️

Please look forward to THE TIDE OF HER, book 3 in the series, coming very soon on October 26th! I can’t wait for you all to read it 😀

Thanks so much for reading today’s post~

it was a strange summer

it was a strange summer

Hey there, Sleepwalkers; Monster Kissers; Wild Strangers from the Sea,

It’s me again. I’m back!

As I do every summer, I took a break off writing full time during the months of July and August — meaning, I don’t edit any manuscript or worry about getting them ready for publication; meaning, I usually keep on writing, though more on a casual level, without thinking about all the official stuff that comes with it.

But… this year was different, for some reason.

Without me realizing, I had kind of worn myself down the months before my summer break, as I’d been writing, editing, planning relentlessly, running to try and catch up with all the tasks I had set out for myself. Somehow, I hadn’t noticed how tired I was — until I forced myself to slow down.

The last couple of months have been strangely lazy and messy at once for me. Lazy, because I just dropped everything after finishing the third book in The Sea of Her series around halfway July, since I just needed to catch my breath and had just had my first COVID vaccination, which affected me more than I expected…

…0r wanted to admit to myself.

Telling myself to stop being a wuss, I just started to run around again, expecting myself to pick up the pace a few days after getting vaccinated, doing workouts and other chores, ignoring how tired it made me feel.

Yeah, well… that was a bad idea. One of the worst I’ve ever had, actually.

To make a long story short (because, really, I have far more interesting stories to share which I’d rather spend thousands of words on 😉 ), I was forced to park my butt on the couch and stop being my disciplined self, because my health was seriously suffering from it and to be honest, that really freaked me out. I just felt so tired, guys, I didn’t feel like me at all!

Also, I had to face reality and finally admit that I was trying to do too much on my own regarding my writing, only to get frustrated with myself for not accomplishing all of the tasks I had set out for myself, simply because there’s only so many hours in a day. This is why I’ve finally accepted some more help to support me in this entire writing adventure of mine, meaning someone will start helping me from now on with tasks such as promoting and also growing my ARC team. (I’ll share some more details soon~)

No worries, I’ll still be present personally on social media and my blog — so, when you’re talking to me, you’ll truly be talking to ME, as always ❤️

Anyway, since August I’ve been fully vaccinated after getting my second jab (and I don’t know about you guys, but the side effects from the second one were pretty awful if you ask me, I felt like a zombie for DAYS), but the weeks after I’ve been recovering in sudden, rapid speed — also mentally.

You know what? I’m feeling pretty good now 🙂

I’ve started going for regular walks during the final week of my summer break, which was when summer made a sudden comeback and painted the sky blue and warmed the air. It felt so great to be outside, be in the sun, breathe in some fresh air that smelled like both summer and autumn. This week the weather hasn’t been so spectacular, but that’s fine; I’m simply glad that I feel strong again, not just in body but also in mind.

With this post, I just wanted to give you all an update; although my presence on social media has remained rather steady this summer, I did kind of slack off on this blog. But I’m telling you now that I am back, have sent the third manuscript of The Sea of Her out to my Editing Ninjas for the final round of revisions, and have begun working on the fourth book! 😀

I’m glad to be working again — I mean, playing video games all day is incredibly fun, but… actually doing something, creating something… to me, that’s what life is really about ❤️❤️ Happy to be back!

So, like I said, it was a strange summer. But you know what? I’m more than ready for a wacky autumn 😉

Well, that’s it for this week! I’ve got some fun blog posts planned for the next few months, which will be a bit more “upbeat” than this one. (Hopefully it hasn’t been too gloomy and angsty, haha)

How has your summer been? Are you ready for autumn? And, better yet, for Halloween?

(*whispers* And… is it REALLY too soon to start mentioning Christmas…?)

JUNE 2021 Writing Update #1: Writing Days of Infinite Sunshine

JUNE 2021 Writing Update #1: Writing Days of Infinite Sunshine

Peace is the way to live. Violence is only a way to survive.

— quote from The Waves of Him (The Sea of Her #2)

June is here, marking the start of summer — and it really, truly does.

The weather has been amazing here in the Netherlands for the past few days, filled with sunshine and infinite blue skies. No more long sleeves, no more endless layers of clothes. We’re going summer style.

And, in case you didn’t know, I happen to LOVE summer. It’s by far my favorite season, simply because everything feels more alive. The vibrant colors of nature give me such inspiration for my stories, and the warm temperature fills me with energy; I swear it makes me write even faster than usual. (Really. It does.)

Except during a heatwave, maybe. However, on the other hand, I’ve also been binge-writing during several of them over the past few years 😉

So, now over to the actual “writing” in this Writing Update! The last couple of weeks have been quite busy for me, and even more bookish action is coming my — and your — way this month.

A new book has been finished.
Others have been edited.
Another one is being born.
And some are about to spread their wings and fly off into the wide world of the reading community…

You ready?

• Diving into the tragic past of the Insomnia Saga

If you’ve been following me on social media lately, you’ve probably already seen this — however, I’d still like to mention that a couple of weeks ago I finished working on the manuscript of The Origins Files. It is a short story collection that is a sequel to The Nocturne Files (Insomnia Saga 2.5), yet is also deeply connected to ORIGINS (Insomnia Saga 3).

As ORIGINS has only released in ebook and paperback last week, I cannot say too much, except that several new subjects on the dark past of Alain Somnus and the Night Angel Cult have been touched upon in the book, and I’ve turned those side-storylines in a detailed short story and novella that make up The Origins Files.

It was really fun and interesting to work on this, but also rather sad at some points, as I dug deeper in Orion’s and Nilisa’s past and relationship… and if you’ve read The Nocturne Files, you can probably guess it’s all pretty tragic, to say the least. I don’t think I’ve ever written such a complicated, messy love story before!

I’ve already picked a release date for the book, so I’ll let you guys know ASAP 🙂

• The Sea of Her: editing, publication & writing update

Last month I revealed my brand-new Paranormal Romance series, entitled The Sea of Her, and announced the release for book 1 (June 22nd) and book 2 (August 24th)… which means the series will start releasing THIS MONTH!!

In case you haven’t noticed yet, I’m totally excited.

😀

Yes. So. Currently the preparations are in full swing. I finished editing the first book last week and am currently working my way through the final revisions on book 2, The Waves of Him. Usually I am not a huge fan of revisions, but I’m actually having lots of fun with these!

Meanwhile, I am already working on book 3 in the series, which I’ll probably officially announce later this summer. The rough overall plot outline for the entire book is done, and earlier this week I even finished the detailed plot outline for the first half of the novel. I’ve begun writing the first couple of chapters yesterday, and will work some more on it as I wrap up the revisions on book 2 this week 🙂

And next week, and probably the week after, me and my sis/awesome book designer will join forces again to turn the manuscripts into actual books! I can’t wait to see the ebook editions — and I’m even more excited for the paperbacks. What will they look like? What kind of interior design will they get? Even I don’t know yet! (THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME.)

So, that’ll be June — and after all that work is done, I’m going to slow down for a couple of months as I’ll be taking my annual summer break~ I am pretty sure there will still be a lot of writing going on, and of course, I’ll keep up my presence on social media and will stay in touch with my ARC team and other readers (uhm, when exactly will this become a holiday??), but… whenever I feel like taking a day or several days off to just read or play a video game or do whatever, I simply can without having to feel guilty 😉 (We all know THAT feeling, right?)

Also, a quick Covid-update; the vaccinations here in the Netherlands are finally progressing a lot faster, and I think I might be able to get mine this month. I just hope it’ll be after I’m done with all my work, because everyone seems to end up feeling terribly tired after getting their shot. We’ll see. Well, now that I think about it, it doesn’t really matter that much. I’ll make it work anyway. After all, your health is way more important than deadlines, right?

This is it for now! This’ll be my last blog post for the next few weeks, as I’m going to be really busy, but of course I’ll still be around on social media <3

I hope you guys are all doing well and are in good health! Please feel free to leave a message here down below; I always love reading them 🙂

(Also, I went for a long walk yesterday, and if you’d like to see some pretty pictures of trees and flowers and even more trees, head on over to my Instagram!)

MAY 2021 Writing Update: Quiet Times

MAY 2021 Writing Update: Quiet Times

Okay, so it’s been a while since my final Writing Update — exactly a month, which wasn’t the plan, as I always try to keep this blog alive with regular updates… but you know, sometimes you have to be honest with yourself and realize that, some moments, you just don’t have anything super interesting to share.

In all honesty, I’m going through a more “quiet” phase lately, in which I am working hard behind the scenes and everything just flows nicely. Which is cool, but leaves me wondering what to tell you guys.

However, I’ve just decided to give you all a quick run-down of my current projects 🙂 Let’s go!

At the end of April and the start of May, I worked together with my book designer (who happens to be my awesome sister, for those of you who didn’t know that yet!) to turn ORIGINS (Insomnia Saga 3) into an actual book! We made the ebook, designed the paperback, made the book trailers, and added some updates to my website to keep everything… well, up to date.

I’m super excited about how ORIGINS has turned out, especially the paperback edition, as it’s filled with lots of fun features such as in-story newspaper articles, blog posts and advertisements, that all contribute to the world-building. (Of course, these are also included with the ebook edition, but since there’s only so much design you can add to an ebook, it’s a bit less fancy than the paperback, naturally.) Feeling proud of this latest installment to the Insomnia Saga, and I hope you guys will all enjoy the continuation of Jodi’s and Kay’s journey ❤️

ORIGINS releases next week on May 25th in ebook and paperback!

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working on writing The Origins Files (Insomnia Saga 3.5), the third short story collection in the series. Like The Nocturne Files, it consists of a short story and a novella, that follow up the stories featured in the earlier mentioned Nocturne Files.

It’s really fun to work on, as I dive deeper into Alain Somnus’s character — while his best friend, Frankie, also gets some special screen time, as well as Orion (an important key character as he’s the co-founder of the Night Angel Cult together with Nilisa Solovey)… and, I’m even introducing a brand new character! I’ll reveal more as soon as ORIGINS is out 😉

And, of course, last week I finally revealed my brand new Paranormal Romance series, entitled The Sea of Her. All information can be found here.

As book 1 and 2 are already finished (and currently being edited by my Editing Ninjas and myself!), I’m going to work on book 3 as soon as I’ve finished writing The Origins Files. I’m already looking forward to it, and I’ll keep you all posted on the developments ❤️❤️ It’s so nice to finally be able to talk about this series, now that I can share the titles, covers, and storyline. Makes it easier too, lol~

This is it, for now. Just a quick update. As I stated earlier, everything is simply going smoothly, calmly… quietly. Not much to report, except that all is going well 😀 That’s pretty nice too, right?

How are you all doing? Is life quiet, or is it busy?

Please feel free to leave a comment down below, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

APRIL 2021 Writing Update #1: a 4-year anniversary

APRIL 2021 Writing Update #1: a 4-year anniversary

Hello there, Monster Kissers and Sleepwalkers! ♥️

It’s been a little while since my last Writing Update, but this was mostly because I didn’t have a lot of interesting news to share with you yet… and I’ve also actually been waiting until it was the 14th of April to post my update, because this happens to be a rather special date for me 😉

Why, you ask? Well, read on and find out!

(See? I even use tiny cliffhangers in my blog posts these days. I’m on a roll.)

• a 4-year anniversary

Four years ago, on April 14th 2017, I posted my very first blog post on this very blog, I tweeted my very first tweet, and published my very first post on Facebook, in which I introduced myself to the world as a freshly new indie-author.

Well, actually, I only introduced myself to the Netherlands, since I still wrote my books in Dutch at the time, but anyway — that day was the start of my journey as a published author and I will never forget it, because going down this road is still one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I remember feeling so excited that day, as I could finally start spreading the word of my first book’s release (which came out at the start of June 2017; it was the first installment to a 6-book Fantasy/Horror/Romance series entitled the Schimmenwereld Serie/“Phantom World series”), and everything started to become real. However, to be honest, it was also quite anticlimactic, because obviously, not a soul had heard of me and those first few months I practically drowned in a sea of tweets and posts without anyone noticing me.

But none of that matters! I’ve come pretty far since then, even switched over to English a year ago so I could reach readers internationally, and it has all been the beginning of realizing my dreams. I still have many goals to achieve and dreams to realize, but I’m working hard, and… well, to be honest, are you ever finished realizing goals and dreams? Once you’ve achieved one, a new one will pop up. There’s no rest for the wicked! And crazed writers, obviously 😉

Anyway. Happy anniversary to me! 😀

• The New Series

In the last Writing Update, I told you that I had finished writing the first book of my brand-new Fantasy Romance series, and that I had sent the manuscript to my beta-readers for their opinion. I was rather nervous, remember?

Well, turned out I didn’t really need to be, because they loved it! I was so relieved. ♥️

I’ve already begun working on book 2 and am about halfway through. I expect to have it finished before the end of April, so it’s all going rather smoothly — and my brain’s already brimming with very detailed ideas for book 3!

Also, I have seen the covers for the first two books, as they’ve already been made, and WHOA. Guys, they’re so beautiful!!! I honestly can’t wait to share them with you! It won’t be long now, I’ll stop teasing you real soon, I swear!

Some big reveals and updates are coming in May, so stay tuned! I’ll share some covers, the blurb for book 1, and of course a release date 🙂

• Insomnia Saga updates are coming too!

Apart from covers for my new series, I have also seen the final three covers for the Insomnia Saga, and as I stated on Instagram, they look freakishly gorgeous. I’ll share those with you as well (in May, probably? Otherwise June at the latest)!

Also, the revisions for ORIGINS part two are in full swing, which should be finished at the end of this month. The release of the full edition and so the paperback on May 25 is finally drawing near 😀

Let’s wrap up this update! I’ve probably teased you guys way too much with promises while I am not showing a single thing, but I swear the wait is almost over! I’m super excited about all the projects I’m working on (as you can probably tell, lol). I actually have a hard time believing it’s only been 4 years since I became a published author — to me, it kind of feels like I’ve been doing this for almost a decade or something 😉 So strange!

Well, in that case, I’ll see you guys on my 10-year anniversary in six years, right~?

Thank you for reading this update, and please be safe and well everyone! ♥️

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #2: A Month of Endings and New Beginnings

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #2: A Month of Endings and New Beginnings

Hey there Monster Kissers and Sleepwalkers ♥️

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last writing update, but to be honest, it feels like months — probably because I’ve been doing a lot of work… that will result in several new book releases 😉

So, what have I been up to?

• the release of KISSING PASSION

I know most of you already know this, but I like to touch on KISSION PASSION‘s release of last week anyway, because it is different from other book releases; after all, KISSING PASSION is the eighth and final book in the Kissing Monsters series, marking an end to my latest writing journey.

It still feels a bit unreal, to be honest! I’d actually already said my goodbyes to Kiss, Zane, and the others back when I finished the manuscript in December, but now I feel like I’m doing it all over again thanks to the reviews and words of readers. I just want to thank you all for your amazing support for this series, and for  loving the ending!

That’s one of the scariest things when finishing a series; I always do my best to tie up all loose ends and write an ending that will leave you satisfied, but I only know for sure I’ve succeeded in that as soon as I hear back from the readers — meaning, it is a RELIEF you all seem to have enjoyed it.

I will forever do my best to keep this up with my future series 😀

• talking of future series…

In my previous writing update I was still working on the first book of my brand new series… and I am proud to say that I have finished the manuscript last week!

Suddenly my manic writing skills kicked in again (as they usually do when I’m working on the final chapters of a book; it’s weird, but it just happens) and I wrote nearly 100 pages in three days. Now that I look back on it, it actually passed me by in a blur — especially that last day, when I wrote nearly 10.000 words. My brain was absolute toast as soon as I’d written that final sentence of the epilogue, but it was so worth it. Pushing through the last chapters of a manuscript at top-speed always gives me quite the adrenaline boost 😉

I’ve read the entire manuscript on Monday and yesterday, to check whether the overall story line was running smoothly as well as the scenes, and I must say when I finished reading I was feeling rather pleased with my work… but now the nerves have kicked in, because I have sent the manuscript to my beta readers and it’s time to see what they think of it. It’s nerve wracking, I tell you.

However, in any case, I’m planning to launch this new series early summer, so expect some news and revelations during the coming months 😀

• quick Insomnia Saga update

I’ve also been editing the first half of ORIGINS, and the ebook edition of part 1 will release tomorrow! (I’ll publish a blog post on that, of course, so if you’re interested, stay tuned!)

Next week I’m going to dive into the other half, so that one and the complete edition of ORIGINS can finally be released on May 25th in both ebook and paperback ♥️ Jodi and Kay are back in book 3 of the Insomnia Saga, learning to become stronger and braver than ever in a world that’s quickly turning against them, with dark clouds of the Night looming on the horizon…

All right, those are the most important updates for now! I’m going to work on outlining book 2 of the new series, as well as doing some brainstorming sessions for the remaining Insomnia Saga books that still need to be written. As always, I’ll keep you all posted 🙂

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #1: Diving Deep into a New World

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #1: Diving Deep into a New World

“It is instinct,” Keanu suddenly says, and Leilani looks up slowly. He doesn’t meet her eye. “A life is still a life, an existence, no matter how dark it may be. Even a bad life can be hard to give up on. Because your heart is always insistent on beating on, your lungs on drawing breath. It is instinct,” he repeats, finally lifting his gaze, “to stay alive. And hope for something better.”

— quote from The Project That Shall Not Be Revealed… yet —

Yes. You’re reading this right. No. You’re not seeing things that aren’t there.

This is a quote from the first book of the brand new series I am now working on — it is real, it is there; a new book series is coming! 😀

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am very HAPPY and very RELIEVED.

I’ll tell you some more in this update. Let’s dive in!

• The Project That Shall Not Be Revealed… yet

In February’s Writing Update I told you how I was still struggling with the concept for a new book series. I kept on changing my mind, I kept on starting over on the plot outline again and again. I couldn’t decide on anything and none of the angles I came up with felt like the “right one”.

A few days after that update, I actually decided to give up on the project, because it simply drove me insane… and I just had to be honest with myself and admit that now obviously wasn’t the time to work on this story. So, I turned to another project that had been on my mind since 2019 and decided to work on that instead.

To be honest, I felt a bit reluctant at first. Attempting and failing to write the other series had left me feeling a little bit insecure (I was seriously worried I had somehow lost my touch over the Christmas holidays, or something), but as soon as I sat down and began taking notes for my ideas, it all just began to flow.

I’ve been pretty quiet about it, though, because I was still scared I’d change my mind any moment and decide to quit and move on to yet another project. BUT! Luckily, that is not the case, and this new project is slowly stealing my heart as I’m getting to know my new characters…; they’re so fascinating, I just want to find out more about them!!

So, yes, this new project is the real thing, and I enjoy working on it so much~

However, at this point, I still can’t reveal too much — except that the main characters are called Leilani and Keanu (as you’ve probably noticed in the quote I shared above!)… and that it’ll be an ocean/sea themed series with a fantasy and — of course — highly romantic twist 😀

And that is all I’m going to say before I get too excited and spill too much~ (CONTROL YOURSELF, WRITER!)

[By the way, I have been getting new ideas for the series I had to give up on! I’m so glad, because it felt like such a shame to quit. Hopefully, in the near future, I’ll be able to write the story after all…)

• Editing ORIGINS part 1

The revisions on ORIGINS part 1 (to be released March 25th in eBook edition) are in full swing here, and I’m enjoying it so much!! Sometimes I tend to forget editing can actually be fun, instead of just tiring. I don’t know why, though.

However, it’s great to connect with Jodi and Kay again. Reading about them in book 3 gives me so many feels (their relationship is so complex, I’m both frustrated and in love with those two~) and really makes me want to write the fourth and final book. The plan is to at least start working on it this year. It’s going to be so intense… 😉

That is it for now, guys! I’m so glad to be back in my usual writing flow, and I’m really happy to be able to share that with you all in this first Writing Update of March 2021 ♥️ I’m really excited for the upcoming months, and I’ll keep you all posted on the new book series! I’m planning to reveal some more after April, when the final book in the Kissing Monsters series is released… Stay tuned!

FEBRUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: Words in the Snow

FEBRUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: Words in the Snow

February is here and oooh, how cold it is — it began snowing last weekend and kept snowing until Tuesday. It’s also been quite stormy, so even our balcony got covered in whiteness! I felt a bit like a little kid when I got out of bed Sunday morning and opened the curtains 😀

As you can tell, I really like snow. It just makes the winter feel less “pointless”, you know? I mean, if it has to be cold all the time and the trees have to be bare, at least give me something in return. Like snow.

The thing is, snowy days really inspire me. It just looks magical and makes the outside world appear extra cold when you’re nice and warm inside your home, and it also makes me want to write more, or read more, play more video games, etc. I guess because it makes everything feel extra cozy.

Anyway, let’s touch on some other points for this update!

• Operation Book Publication Preparations: SUCCESSFUL

Last week my book designer and I worked our butts off to prepare the final three Kissing Monsters installments for their publications in February, March, and April (KISSING SECRETS, KISSING PASSION, and the second Kissing Monsters Collection), meaning we had to create the eBooks, design the paperback edition for the Collection, update the website, make the book trailers, schedule them, etc.

It was super busy, and I actually don’t know how we’ve managed all this in about 4 to 5 days, but we did it! I’m totally prepared for the book releases now, and really looking forward to them 😀

• Editing ORIGINS — part one

This week I sat down to edit the first half of ORIGINS (Insomnia Saga 3), which will be released in eBook only edition on March 25th (I told you guys more about this in last week’s blog post).

It was pretty exciting for me to dive back into this project, as I’ve written the manuscript almost a year ago. I even managed to surprise myself a few times, because I’d totally forgotten what happened next, lol~ Guess that’s a given when you write several manuscripts a year. It’s impossible to keep track of every single detail.

Anyway, the editing went smoothly and I’ve already sent the manuscript to my beta-readers. Jodi and Kay will return very soon… 🙂

• The Big New Project

Since I’m done editing, I now (finally!) have a couple of weeks ahead of me in which I can write full time, meaning I can invest all of my time in the New Project. In my last Writing Update I told you about my struggles in finding the right angle for this story. In that very blog post I said I had finally found the best way to tell this story — and yet, a couple of days later, I realized yet again that it still wasn’t good enough.

(This resulted in some hysterical laughter.)

I’ve begun working on the plot outline (again) yesterday. And then started all over again today, because my mind is still in utter chaos and I can’t seem to decide which angle to go with! I really hope I’ll be able to start writing this book for real soon, since this is starting to get… well, annoying, actually, lol. I’m not used to changing my mind over a story this often!

Anyway, I do already have several detailed ideas for at least three sequels, so I am excited to see where this series is going… Now just try to write book 1 first 😉

That’s it for now! See you guys in the next update ♥️

Question of the day! — Do you like snow?

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #2: How I Managed to Freak Myself Out

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #2: How I Managed to Freak Myself Out

Well hello there, everyone~

As it’s already the final week of January, I figured another Writing Update would be in order. Some of you might have seen some smaller updates on my social media during the last couple of weeks… and might have noticed I was on the verge of some kind of Mental-Breakdown-for-Crazed-Writers, especially last week (nothing too serious, I promise, lol).

So — WHAT HAPPENED?

I’ll explain.

• Chaotic Fantasy

In my previous Writing Update I told you guys that I was about to embark on a new journey by starting on a brand new book series. That’s always a fun, exciting thing, right? I thought so too.

But the thing is, my mind is so full with so many ideas, that I had a hard time focusing on anything during the first few days. Anyway, in the end I finally managed to concentrate again (without feeling like some kind of loopy monkey that’d rather bounce around all day), and I had all these crazy ideas for the story, all these background information for my characters, a massive amount of world-building, an impossible love story… all the ingredients needed for a series.

However, it was all too much.

Every time I had outlined a few chapters, I realized things were getting way too complicated and messy — really, I didn’t want to put my readers through this mess, and actually? The thought of having to write out these chapters kind of made me feel… exhausted. The story was getting out of hand before I even truly started it, and I had a tough time sorting it all out.

I soon realized the key was to simplify the story, by taking out some characters and events and saving them for later books.

That helped.

Yet still wasn’t the solution. I kept on struggling and thinking, until last week — on Thursday night — I truly thought I had it; but when I woke up on Friday and went through my morning routine, I realized my ideas were absolute crap and that I still hadn’t found the right way to tell this story. To be honest, for a moment there I was about to give up on the entire project and move on to another one.

UNTIL… seriously, I think the minute after thinking that, the minute after figuring I should just let go of it for now… I got this amazing idea.

And from that idea, another one unfurled. And another one. Before I knew it, my usual brainstorming flow kicked in, and the ideas and solutions just kept on coming, and finally, I had found the best way to introduce the world and give voice to the characters, who had been starting to feel like wooden puppets to me that just stood around, gaping at me while waiting for me to tell them what to do, rather than breathing humans who tell the story instead.

Which means? I am back. I took the entire weekend off just to take notes and let it all grow inside my mind, and since this Monday I’ve been working on yet another plot outline — and this time I am truly getting excited about this project and falling in love with the characters 😀

• Freaky Times

In all honesty, last week I got a bit worried. I seriously felt like I had somehow “lost my touch” and wasn’t, for some reason, able to coherently tell a story anymore. I began to wonder how the hell I ever began a new series without losing myself in a mountain of ideas.

But that is exactly what helped me figure it out; I always tell myself, when I begin a new series, I have to start out simple. The complications and details can be introduced later in the sequels, as the story and characters evolve. That way, as a writer, I evolve with them — and so do the readers.

It’s quite simple, actually, but I was kind of lost for a bit. And yes, that freaked me out big time 😛

Anyways, I’m back in business again, and very excited to see where this new story is going. As soon as I can share more with you all, I will! 😉

That’s it for this week’s Writing Update! I’m already gearing up for February, in which it is time to prepare the final books of Kissing Monsters for their releases… An update on that will be up on the blog next week!

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: The Return of the Writer Girl

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: The Return of the Writer Girl

Hi there Monster Kissers, and welcome to my very first Writing Update of 2021 ❤️

If you’re following me on social media, you’d probably noticed I was rather quiet on there during the last three weeks…

• Writer Girl became Gamer Girl

That’s because I actually, truly, took some time off.

In 2020 I’ve practically been writing non-stop, and even in December I had no means of slowing down. However, at the start of my holidays I treated myself to a new video game I’d been wanting to play for months (but simply didn’t allow myself to buy “because I was too busy”), and I got so absorbed in it that I simply stopped thinking about writing. YES. I even stopped taking notes. I just allowed myself to completely lose myself in the game’s story and world, and I am so glad I did that — that I’ve given myself that “gift”, so to speak 😀

(In case you’re wondering, the game I’m talking about is the amazing Final Fantasy VII Remake — I’ve been a huge fan of the franchise ever since the movie “Advent Children” came out when I was 13, and wow, I’ve fallen head over heels with the world and characters all over again. It’s just magical. If you’re into action RPG games with dizzying sword fights and an emotional and mind-bending storyline, I highly recommend it.)

(In case you’re wondering, no, I’m not being paid to advertise this game, lol)

Sorry, I went off-topic here: what I’m actually trying to say is that I have really enjoyed my time off, and that it has been so good for me. I’ve come up with all new kinds of ideas and concepts for book series I’m working on or want to write, simply by taking a break and doing something completely different 🙂 I’m feeling so well-rested, and only now realize how much I’ve needed to wind down and just let go of stuff.

• Back to work… slowly

I’ve been back in business since Monday, quick-editing the manuscripts of Kissing Monsters books 7 and 8… but I’m feeling a bit less fanatical than usual, meaning I’m allowing myself an hour or so at the end of each day to play my current video game obsession some more 😉 Normally I don’t do that, because I’m usually too disciplined to “indulge” myself, lol~ (I’m a real nutter, I guess.)

However, it’s actually important for me to start things up slowly again. Now that the final revisions of the Kissing Monsters books are drawing near, it means that I’m on the verge of actually wrapping up the project… which will give me time to take on a new one, next to working on the Insomnia Saga (I expect to finish writing this series this year also).

In December I excitedly told you guys about a new book I’d been working on, that started out as a stand-alone and then turned into a series. I’ve gotten lots of new ideas for this project, though at this point I’m not entirely sure yet that it will be the one I’ll be working on soon. As I said above, many things have changed in that brain of mine ever since I took time off, and right now my mind and inspiration are all over the place.

For now I’m writing down ideas for several series, hoping that it’ll help me figure out what new project I’d like to tackle 🙂

This is it for now, guys! I’m excited about all the books I will be writing this year, especially because at this point I’m not even sure which they’ll be yet (this is new for me, lol). As always, I’ll keep you posted!
