MAY 2020 Writing Update: the ORIGINS of awesome writing

MAY 2020 Writing Update: the ORIGINS of awesome writing

Okay, first of all — I’d like to apologize for the slightly lame title of this post x”D I thought it was pretty witty, actually, looking at the fact that I wrote my book, ORIGINS, this month… and working on it had been awesome, so…

Yeah. Well.

Let’s move on and dive right into May’s writing update! For me it has been a month of success and inspiration, and I’d love to tell you guys more about it! 😀 Let’s go:

• ORIGINS: the manuscript is finished!

Yes, you read that right! In April’s writing update I already told you guys I wanted to finish writing ORIGINS (Insomnia Saga 3) in May… and well, if you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know I usually always complete the tasks I set for myself 😉

I finished writing ORIGINS during the second week of May. I’d been writing like a maniac for days straight; I just kept on going, finishing one chapter after another, because I had to finish this book…

And then, suddenly, I’d written the book’s epilogue. And that was that.

It felt awesome, though I must admit it was also slightly anticlimactic — first I’d wanted nothing more but to finish the manuscript (because I have SO MANY other ideas crowding this brain of mine), but the moment I was done, I honestly was a bit disappointed that the journey had come to an end.

Because writing ORIGINS certainly was one hell of a journey; of course, I’ve put my heart and soul into every installment of the Insomnia Saga, but this being the latest book I’ve worked on causes me to be a bit overly “attached” to it, so to speak 😉 I absolutely loved the process, especially because it went so smoothly. The characters felt truly alive to me and every idea I had for this book just seemed to fit in with the plot perfectly.

I managed to put every scene that was in my head for this book into the manuscript — I just LOVE that ❤️

ORIGINS was written in 6 weeks and 1 day! (yes, I checked)

I actually can’t wait to share ORIGINS with you — but… book 2 still needs to be published x”D The wait is nearly over, though; NOCTURNE (Insomnia Saga 2) will be released in ebook and paperback next month!

Now I’ve got several spin-offs left to write for the Insomnia Saga, and I hope to begin working on book 4, SOMNUS, by the end of this year 🙂

• NOCTURNE official coming soon trailer

Speaking of NOCTURNE…

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, I’d like to share NOCTURNE’s official coming soon trailer that went online last week! Personally, I’m totally fangirling over the spookiness of it~

NOCTURNE releases in ebook and paperback on June 23rd!

As I said before, the wait is almost over! I hope you guys are just as excited as I am 😉

If you’re curious, I’m sharing some quotes of NOCTURNE on my Instagram feed, so go ahead and check it out!

BEHIND THE SCENES SEP 2018 - Brainstorming

• Brainstorming madness

After I finished writing ORIGINS, I actually thought I was supposed to take a break off writing or something. I don’t know why, but for some reason I expected myself to take it easy for a bit.

My brain works in mysterious ways.

However, literally a few hours after I finished ORIGINS, I already realized I just didn’t want to stop writing, I didn’t need a break: I wanted to go on.

So that’s exactly what I did; I began working on plot outlines for several projects that have been living in my mind for a while now, and I’m not sure what is going on in that head of mine these days, but it’s like I’m unstoppable.

Within a week, I wrote the complete plot outlines for the stories included in the Insomnia Saga short story collection, The Origins Files (Insomnia Saga 3.5), and for the third installment to the Kissing Monsters series, which is entitled KISSING SCARLET.

After I’d finished those, I began working on the plot outline for another book, which will be the first installment to yet another series! I’m not able yet to tell you guys everything, except that it’s going to be a series of stand alone installments of dark, romantic fantasy stories ❤️ I’m very excited about this project, so I hope I’ll be able to share more soon! I’m currently really enjoying the plot outline/brainstorming process. It’s going very well, and I expect to have it finished by the end of this afternoon, as a matter of fact 🙂

The “problem” I have with writing all these plot outlines, however, is that every time I finish one, my hands are itching to start writing the actual manuscripts x”D I don’t, though, because writing all of these plot outlines first is part of my amazing-summer-writing plan (wait for it, here it comes):

In two weeks’ time, I’ll be joining my designer to make NOCTURNE‘s ebook, paperback and book trailer. After that, there will be one or two weeks left of June, and in July/August I’m taking a bit of a summer break, as I do every year, in which I allow myself to do some other stuff besides writing (like reading and playing video games~). However, I’m so full of inspiration these days, that I don’t really want to stop, so I’m working ahead now by finishing all of those plot outlines, so I can just sit down during my summer break and start writing, without having to think through and solve plot-issues.

That’s like the summer-holiday version of writing, right? Next to that, I won’t have to edit a single manuscript in July and August, so I can focus entirely on my favorite part: simply writing my books ❤️

Sounds pretty neat, huh?

All right, I suppose this wraps up May pretty nicely! I’ve done a lot of writing, as usual, and am thoroughly enjoying the process 😀 I’m also currently editing NOCTURNE in the mornings — it’s the final round of revisions before we’re going to turn it into an actual book! I can’t wait to hold it in my hands~

Oh, right — did you see last week’s special blog post on my 5 Tips & Tricks for a high-productivity-healthy-indoors-lifestyle? If not and you’re interested, please check it out! I’m sharing my own favorite tricks for getting the most out of each day while in quarantine, so maybe you get something out of it as well 🙂 It’s an article full of inspiration, chasing dreams, fitness, yoga, meditation and even tai chi!

Next month will be NOCTURNE‘s release month, so expect loads of awesomeness coming your way! I hope to see you there 😉

As always, thanks so much for reading! If you’ve got any questions or just like to say hi, feel free to drop me a line in the comments section below! ❤️

APRIL 2020 Writing Update: Another INSOMNIA SAGA release, writing ORIGINS & indoors living awesomeness

APRIL 2020 Writing Update: Another INSOMNIA SAGA release, writing ORIGINS & indoors living awesomeness

Hey there, Sleepwalkers!

How are you all doing? How is your quarantine life going? Whenever I’m on social media (which is at least a few times a day, haha), I see so many different people and reactions. Some are terribly anxious and struggling to get anything done, others are angry and frustrated because they can’t go outside, and then there are those who truly seem to enjoy themselves at home and are even improving their lifestyle.

I’m one of the latter, actually — to be honest, being a writer and a rather “indoorsy” person, not much has changed for me, except for the fact that I can’t go outside for my runs and walks, which is a shame really, because I enjoy being outside and feel the sun on my skin. However, the mere thought of catching this virus is enough to keep me indoors. I know that I tend to add horror elements to my books, but that doesn’t mean I want to experience something horrific either, y’know? 😉

But how am I improving my lifestyle and how is this affecting my writing? I’ll tell you all about it in this April Writing Update:

• NEW RELEASE: The Insomnia Files (Insomnia Saga 1.5)

This month kicked off with a great start — on April 7th I released the second installment of the Insomnia Saga: The Insomnia Files, a short story collection that allows the reader to dive deeper into the Insomnia Saga‘s universe, world-building, and the characters’ lives and histories.

The Insomnia Files includes three short stories about Jodi, Kay, and Alain Somnus — the third a key-character introduced during the last few chapters of INSOMNIA. Not much information is given about him in the book, but this short story will certainly explain a few things about Alain 😉

If you’d like to find out more, check out the RELEASE BLOG POST or visit the official INSOMNIA SAGA page ?

• ORIGINS: writing book 3

Ooh yes, you read that right! This month I began working on ORIGINS, book three in the Insomnia Saga 🙂

I wrote the plot outline for the first half of the book back in March, but had been wanting to work on this project since December — ever since I finished writing book 2, NOCTURNE, actually 😀 So when I finally began writing ORIGINS this month, I didn’t hold back at all and wrote like hell.

I even started adapting a new writing “technique”, so to speak: I keep on writing without reading anything I wrote. Yep. Even when I sit down again the next morning, I don’t even bother reading what I’ve written the previous day. After all, it’s not like I’ve forgotten what I wrote, now did I? 😉

No, in all seriousness, this saves an incredible amount of time and really ups my productivity. During the first couple of weeks, I think I wrote about 3 chapters a day. I’m on 2 now, because I’ve started editing a manuscript in the mornings (more about that below!), but it still works really well for me.

Which is why I’ve already written the first 254 pages of ORIGINS — which also happens to mean that the first two parts of the book are finished. Whenever I finish an entire part, I do take the time to read back what I wrote, though!

Anyway, only three more parts to go; and since these last three parts aren’t going to be that much work (I think; it’s pretty straightforward), I wonder whether I’ll manage to finish the book in May… Who knows, right? It would be cool, because that means I have some time before the publication of NOCTURNE (Insomnia Saga 2; coming June 23rd!) to work on some smaller projects ?

I’ll be spending the rest of this week writing the plot outline for the remaining 3 parts of ORIGINS ?

• NOCTURNE: editing book 2

Last week I began editing the second full-length installment in the Insomnia Saga, NOCTURNE, after working through the amazing notes I got from my beta readers, who have been reading the manuscript during February/March.

I’m actually really enjoying the editing process! To be honest, I was kind of dreading it at first — not because I hate revisions that much, but because I was worried it would cut down my productivity/speed while working on ORIGINS. But I’ve kind of been living by schedules since last week, and it truly helps; editing goes smoothly because I’m breaking it apart in smaller portions (this keeps me focused), and writing still goes well because I have plenty of time left for it.

So, all is going well; I’m really looking forward to NOCTURNE‘s release in June! By the way, in May I’ll be sharing a really cool teaser trailer for the book, so if you haven’t subscribed to my YouTube channel already, please do!

• High productivity and improved lifestyle

Like I said, because of everything that’s going on with COVID-19 and being forced to stay indoors constantly, I have made some (minor) changes to my lifestyle. Minor, yes, yet I feel they’re having a huge impact on me — in a very positive way, that is ❤️

Usually I’m not one for living by schedules. I think it actually sounds rather neurotic. AND YET. Because I wanted to keep my productivity high while writing ORIGINS and I had to start editing NOCTURNE, I decided to give it a try.

And I’m loving it.

Next to bookish things, I’m also scheduling my workouts. I used to go out for runs and walks, mostly in the mornings, but ever since I can’t, I caught myself slacking off a bit. I still did my indoor workouts in the evenings (I already did those before all this), but my “daylight training” (for a lack of a better description, haha) was kind of non-existent… and I didn’t like that, because my health is important to me, and I actually LOVE working out. On top of that, I always notice that working out regularly not only makes me stronger physically but mentally as well; it makes me feel fit and alert and focused, which increases my productivity in, yes, writing!

I’ve been sharing my schedules for fun in my Instagram stories, but to give you an idea, here’s what yesterday’s looked like:

MORNING

— edit 15 pages of NOCTURNE

— WORKOUT: 30 minute HIIT

— edit 15 pages of NOCTURNE

— write blog post

AFTERNOON

— work on plot outline ORIGINS

EVENING

— WORKOUT: 50 minute cardio kickboxing + strength training

…Well. That looks rather nice, doesn’t it? ?

It’s also really satisfying to check off those boxes — it makes me feel productive and pretty dynamic actually 😀

However, like I said at the beginning, not that much has changed for me. I’m already used to being at home a lot, which has made me think about sharing an actual blog post about it with some tips I could give other people… but then dozens of other posts shared by other “experts” ( 😛 ) already popped up all over the internet, making me wonder what I could possibly add to all this?

What do you guys think? Would you like to read my tips and tricks for a high-productivity-indoors-lifestyle? Let me know!

All right, no matter how much fun I’m having writing this update, I guess it’s time for me to wrap this up (THE SCHEDULE SPEAKS).

I’ll be working on the plot outline for ORIGINS this week, and in May I’ll be focusing on editing NOCTURNE, writing ORIGINS and possibly work on some small side-projects, though that’s still to be seen 😉

I’m feeling healthy. I’m feeling great and energized and focused. I hope the same goes for you guys, or that you’ll feel better and inspired very soon ❤️

Stay home, stay safe. For you, your family, and every single person out there. We all share this space on Earth, so let’s make the most of it and show respect. (I know many of you do, though 😉 )

Thank you for reading! Please feel free to leave a message below 🙂

It’s 2020: A battle of Light and Night

It’s 2020: A battle of Light and Night

First of all…

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

Here we are, the first of January; the very first day of 2020.

Let’s take a deep breath. Because, I mean, this actually is a pretty special day, right? Yeah, okay, every new day can mean a brand new start; every single day you can decide to do something you’ve never done before or always wanted to do. You don’t need an actual “new year” to do that.

And yet, I can’t help but feel excited about the fact that it is now officially 2020, because I have some really cool plans for this year—and today, I’d like to tell you guys a little bit about them 🙂

2000_MU_Insomnia

• First release: INSOMNIA (Insomnia Saga #1)

My very first release this year will be INSOMNIA, the first official installment of the Insomnia Saga.

I’ve been working on this project since the summer of 2017, so I’m really excited that the series finally is going to get an official “lift off”, so to speak, and that I can share this dark story of mine with all of you. I feel like INSOMNIA is going to be a great first release to start this year with—for me, anyway. I just love this story and my characters to pieces, and I hope you guys will too!

INSOMNIA will be released on February 11th 2020

If you’re curious, you can download the prequel short story JODI COLLINS for free, an eBook that also includes a sneak peek of the first few chapters of INSOMNIA!

INSOMNIA is available for pre-order worldwide (eBook only) on Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords. Check it out!

On the day of release, INSOMNIA will also be available in paperback edition!

• More INSOMNIA SAGA releases on the way…

This year I’ll be focusing entirely on the Insomnia Saga, which means there are many more releases on the way! I can’t give actual dates yet, but to give you an idea of what you’ll be able to expect…:

The Insomnia Files, a collection of short stories accompanying INSOMNIA, will be released April 2020 (both eBook and paperback edition)

NOCTURNE, the second installment of the Insomnia Saga, is planned for a June 2020 release (both eBook and paperback edition)

The Nocturne Files, a collection of short stories accompanying  NOCTURNE, is expected September 2020 (both eBook and paperback edition)

ORIGINS, the third installment of the Insomnia Saga, will be published December 2020 (both eBook and paperback edition)

I’m incredibly excited about all this, and I hope you guys will be with me during this journey through the Insomnia Saga universe 🙂 There will also be a fourth installment to the series, entitled SOMNUS, which will be released in 2021 — but hey, let’s focus on 2020 first, yeah? 😉

Will you be fighting alongside Jodi and Kay in their battle of Light and Night?

Well, in short, this is what 2020 is going to look like for me. In January I’ll be working on both The Insomnia Files and The Nocturne Files, and I expect to start on ORIGINS in February! I can’t wait 😀

I hope you guys all have a wonderful, productive, and fun year as well. Sure, every year will be filled with ups and downs, but let’s focus on the ups instead — negative vibes won’t serve you after all; it’ll only attract more negativity. Or should I say darkness? To use some Insomnia Saga lingo — summon your Light, your Inner Strength, and hold on to it; use it to fight the shadows.

Let’s all work hard to make our dreams come true 🙂

BE CREEPY. STAY FREAKY.
