Watch the first book teaser:

• The Nocturne Files (Insomnia Saga #2.5)

The Nocturne Files contains a novella and an accompanying short story, told from the perspectives of Alain Somnus and Nilisa Solovey; a young man who became the world’s savior when he discovered powers with which he could battle the darkest creatures ever known to man—and a girl who believed them to be angels instead.

First, the Nightprowlers brought them together.
Then, they divided them forever.

File #1, told from dual perspective, revisits the night Alain Somnus performed a ritual of shadows, opening a gate to the realm of Night and accidentally inviting the demons to spill into his world.
The Masters of Night, the monsters are called—yet Nilisa Solovey, Alain’s unwilling fiancée, knows them as the Night Angels instead, for her secret lover, Orion, has been able to see them since he was a child.
And the moment Alain starts fighting them, Nilisa knows it is up to her to protect them—even if it means losing her family, her wealth, her life. Everything.

Nilisa’s story continues in File #2, as she struggles to live in a new world where angels are viewed as devils. Alain has opened the Somnus Academy and is teaching the people how to become Summoners of Light, making Nilisa realize she needs to gather like-minded men and women to stop the slaughtering of divine creatures.
As she crosses paths with the Queen of the Night Angels, an opportunity presents itself for Nilisa that enables her to become a soldier in this war of Night and Light, and save all that she loves:
A man, broken in the eyes of others. A child, who she believes deserves a better world. A queen, destined to rule.

Writing this short story collection has been a lot of fun and rather interesting, as it allowed me to explore the history of the Insomnia Saga‘s universe even deeper — and writing from Nilisa’s perspective was especially intense, considering she’s on the side of the Nightprowlers and regards them as actual angels (!). Let’s just say it was freakishly cool to live in her head for some time 😉

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line here on my blog, on social media, through email; I’ll get back to you ASAP ❤️ Also, I’d appreciate it if you’d consider adding the book to your Goodreads!

OCTOBER 2020 Writing Update #1: Kisses and Secrets

OCTOBER 2020 Writing Update #1: Kisses and Secrets

“I want to make a world for you where you will no longer have to hide or be ashamed.
A world where you can be in love with angels.”

— The Nocturne Files (Insomnia Saga 2.5) —

Hi monster kissers!

Since it’s already the 7th of October, I figured a quick writing update wouldn’t hurt 😉

• Editing: I’m nearly done!

Last Monday I did my final edits on the manuscripts for The Nocturne Files, which means that book 2.5 in the Insomnia Saga is ready to be prepared for its official publication on October 27th! Yesterday I started my final round of revisions on KISSING GHOSTS (Kissing Monsters 4); as it’s a pretty short manuscript, I should be done editing by tomorrow.

My beta-readers and I have been so busy with these revisions lately, so I’m kind of glad it’s coming to an end 😉 Well. For now, that is. I’ll probably be back at it by the end of the month, but let’s not think about that yet~

• 5-starred reviews for KISSING MONSTERS!

I can still barely wrap my head around this, but KISSING MONSTERS has received a few mind-blowing reviews last week, and the same goes for the sequels, KISSING SHADOWS and KISSING SCARLET — all of them with 5-starred ratings! Consider me speechless. I mean, this is all a writer could wish for, right?

I’m just so glad and grateful that more and more readers are discovering the love story of Kiss and Zane, and are enjoying it ❤️ This makes working on this series even more fun — as well as a bit daunting, because I really can’t let anyone down with the sequels now, can I? (*No pressure!!)

😀

• Writing: KISSING SECRETS

KISSING SECRETS is book 7 in the Kissing Monsters series — and yesterday I finally finished writing the plot outline! Yes, finally; I’ve been working on it for nearly two weeks (I know it’s not that long, but I’m kind of used to working faster and my brain being much quicker than this, lol), but especially last week my mind was so full and busy, it just made me feel terribly restless and out of sorts. I had a bit of trouble focusing on my work and the ideas just didn’t seem to want to come to me. I don’t know, maybe the stars weren’t in proper alignment 😉

However, to get back on my feet I’ve started to dedicate myself some more to daily meditation and yoga, and it’s already helping me feel more grounded; my inspiration is flowing again, and that certainly helped me finishing the book’s plot outline.

Today I’ve began working on the actual book and I’m loving the process~

Yep. It’s book 7 out of 8 already.

I almost can’t believe it — it’s making me feel both excited as well as sad, because I actually really don’t want this to end or to have to say goodbye to Kiss, Zane and the others 😭😅 Anyway. I try not to think of it too much!

• October madness!

Next week and the following one I’ll be working together with my magical book designer to prepare The Nocturne Files, KISSING GHOSTS and the very first Kissing Monsters paperback collection (which will include books 1 to 4) for their releases in October, November and December! I’ll keep you guys posted in my story on Instagram — it’s going to be so much fun 😀 I’ll never tire of seeing my manuscripts be turned into actual books~

More information on the Kissing Monsters books — regarding the release dates, etc. — I’ll share with you all very soon!

• Halloween is coming

A small collection of grinning pumpkins, a plate filled with tiny skulls, stringed lights with flying bats, skeleton fingers crawling down the fireplace… we’ve already decorated the house here and are ready for Halloween! I actually wanted to share photos, but ever since the first of October the weather has been absolutely dreadful. It’s been raining almost constantly, rendering my attempts at photographs into smudgy, pixelated pictures 😅 Ah well, can’t be helped.

Are you ready for Halloween as well? Grinning pumpkins? A creepy book? A scary movie?

Okay, so this concludes the very first October Writing Update! I think I truly managed to keep it rather short and sweet, which was the whole point of posting more updates throughout the month instead of a huge one at the end. Feel free the tell me what you think of this new “system” 😉

SEPTEMBER 2020 Writing Update: A Month of Nostalgic Madness

SEPTEMBER 2020 Writing Update: A Month of Nostalgic Madness

Hello there, dear monster kissers~

September has sure been a crazy month! It actually started out rather slow and relaxed. I was enjoying the change in seasons, watching summer slowly making way for autumn; there’s a certain nostalgia to September which always manages to inspire me, and this year was no different.

But I also did A LOT, hence the “madness” in the title 😉 Let’s dive right in…

• Brainstorming for a new/old book series

Like I said, September makes me feel nostalgic and that made me think about a book series I wrote nearly 10 years ago (yes, seriously. Gosh, this makes me feel so old — I’m only 28 though!!). The characters and story never entirely left my mind and most certainly not my heart, and I’ve been wanting to rewrite it for years. I didn’t, however, because I went through some disappointing and bad experiences with this book series regarding a publisher. I won’t go into details now, maybe in the future, but in short: I couldn’t work on this book series anymore without feeling physically ill.

This month, though, I discovered those feelings have entirely left, and now I feel free and at ease enough to work on it again. This is super exciting for me, and although I only planned to jot down some vague notes in my Word document, it soon turned into a pretty detailed plot outline for the first book! WHOA. My mind was blown 😉

I haven’t worked on it in the last couple of weeks, but it’s still on my mind on a daily basis and it looks like it could very well be a project I’m going to work casually on during the coming months. I’m not going to tell you guys anything yet (YES I KNOW I’M EVILLL), apart from the fact that it’s a Upper/Mature YA Fantasy series with loads of romance and a tiny bit of a fairytale-feel although set in a modern day world!

• Writing KISSING FLAMES

Still, nothing could distract me from my other obsession, which is my Kissing Monsters series~ I love working on these books SO MUCH. With every installment, I actually manage to surprise myself with a plot twist even I didn’t see coming! xD

That’s also the case with book 6, KISSING FLAMES, which I finished last week! In this installment I’ve introduced another story line that helped me end the book with a nice cliffhanger (as I stated above, yes I know I’m evil *insert villain-laughter*); it’s something I came up with while drafting the book’s plot outline. Now that I can start working on book 7, I’m really excited to explore this part of the story while things build up to a climax; as I’ve said before, the series will consist of 8 books total, which means…

I’m almost done writing the entire series.

Kind of makes me sad, actually. I love spending time with Kiss, Zane, Skylar and the others~

• Editing Kissing Monsters series + Insomnia Saga

Besides writing, I’ve been busy editing several manuscripts. KISSING SCARLET (Kissing Monsters 3) needed to be prepared for its September release, and as The Nocturne Files (Insomnia Saga 2.5) will release next month in October, those manuscripts needed some work as well. Also, last week I started editing KISSING GHOSTS, book 4 in the Kissing Monsters series which will also be published soon — very, very soon 😉

The revisions have been fun! While editing, I noticed that while writing my manuscripts I have the habit of making unnecessary long sentences, using MANY words for descriptions and actions that can be described a lot simpler. It’s always nice to reflect on my writing and take those lessons along with me for the next project (saves more work editing in the future, lol).

• New release: KISSING SCARLET

Well, it’s only been yesterday, so I’ll keep it short and sweet for this update:

Book 3 in the Kissing Monsters series, KISSING SCARLET, has been released in ebook! I’m so excited for this part of the story to be read by you guys!! I enjoyed writing this installment so much, especially because some scenes take place in a somewhat-tropical-beach-setting and I actually wrote this at the start of the summer — the final chapters were written during a heatwave, as a matter of fact; really suited the setting, lol~

Oh, don’t forget to check out KISSING SCARLET‘s book trailer if you haven’t already!:

• Coming up in October: some changes on my blog

Yes, that’s right! During the last few months I wasn’t entirely happy with my blog — that is, with the (lack of) consistency of my posts. I actually want to post more often so the blog will have a more lively feel to it. Also, I’m going to change my writing update posts:

As you’ve probably noticed as you’re reading this, my writing updates tend to go on for a bit… and then some more. I feel like they’re simply too long, and even though I know I have some AMAZING readers (I love you guys, you all rule) who do read them and even regularly leave comments, I’ve also noticed lots of people tend to stop reading after a bit because of the lengthiness.

In all honesty, even I tend to skip really long blog posts myself occasionally, simply because they’re a bit tiring to read — it’s different from reading a book; in that case I don’t mind lengthy stories at all 😉

So: In October I’m going to try out a new formula, so to speak; I’ll still post writing updates, but they’ll be shorter updates, sometimes maybe even weekly. That way I can also share more personal thoughts and things that happen to me during my daily life, giving it a more personal feel. Like a writer’s diary, or something! I think that sounds pretty cool and cozy.

It’ll be easier for me, too; to be frank, when I sit down to write these updates at the end of each month, I sometimes struggle to recall all of the things I’ve done and then often choose not to mention some things because it will make the post way too lengthy. It’s going to be an experiment for now, both for myself and you guys! I hope we’ll all enjoy the shorter blog posts from now on 🙂

All right; it’s time to say good-bye to September and hello to October! I LOVE October; I’m a real Halloween enthusiast and really enjoy the spooky atmosphere 😀

This month I’ll be working on book 7 of the Kissing Monsters series, doing some more editing, and my lovely book designer and I will get together to prepare some book publications for October, November, and December! Super excited!

COMING UP NEXT MONTH: On October 27th we’ll be celebrating the book birthday of The Nocturne Files, book 2.5 in the Insomnia Saga! It’s the second story collection in the series, including a novella and a short story that dive deeper into the past and lives of Alain Somnus and Nilisa Solovey; the Summoners and the Cult of Night Angels. It’s going to be rather creepy, I can tell you that. Some parts of this book are rather… well. Unnerving 😛

My books are available EVERYWHERE once more!

My books are available EVERYWHERE once more!

Hey there, shadow darlings!

A few months ago — in June — I decided to remove the Kissing Monsters series and the Insomnia Saga ebooks from sites such as Kobo and Barnes&Noble, all so I could enroll them in Amazon’s “KDP Select” program. With my books exclusively for sale on Amazon, it would mean they would also be available on Kindle Unlimited, where members can read an unlimited (hey hey~ xD) amount of books for, I believe, around $10 a month. I figured this would give more people the opportunity to discover my books without them having to buy them, which could possibly boost future sales.

What I did not realize at the time, however, even after careful research (enthusiasm makes one blind, I guess), was that this gave Amazon way too much influence on my promotion — mainly, how I wish to promote my books to readers. In a nutshell, I find out that as long as my books were enrolled in KDP Select I wasn’t allowed to give away my ebooks for free through — for example — my website or email. I wouldn’t even be allowed to host online events in which people could win one of my books for free. Also, I wasn’t allowed to reach out to readers and give them a free copy, because the rules state that you can only ask “professional reviewers” for a review. I could, however, pay lots of money to Amazon to use their special “Amazon advertisements”. Which sounds great and all, but in all honesty I’m rather cynical when it comes to that kind of impersonal promotion. I’m more of a believer of word-of-mouth-marketing!

So to be honest, I wasn’t too charmed by all this. Four years ago I made the decision to go indie because I was sick of others telling me how to write my books, how many titles I was allowed to publish in a year, and even how to promote them; I went indie because I love the freedom of it. Sure, it’s hard sometimes, because you don’t have a publisher behind you to plug your book and push your sales — but the freedom is totally worth it and what I like about the hard work is that once it pays off… well. That just feels damn awesome.

Anyway, I’m going off topic here: For these reasons I have removed my books from KDP’s program last week and published them again on Smashwords. I can now happily announce that both the Kissing Monsters series and Insomnia Saga ebooks are again available on Amazon and Kobo, Barnes&Noble, and of course Smashwords.

I hope my decision of last summer hasn’t affected any of my readers negatively, making it harder for you to obtain my books. If I did, I apologize! As an author dreaming of sharing her stories with readers from all over the world, I keep looking for more effective ways to promote my books. I thought this could be it, and hey, maybe after some time it would have helped, but there were simply too many restrictions.

The pages of the Insomnia Saga and Kissing Monsters series have been updated and the links to the stores have been added to the information column on the right (or if you’re on your tablet, underneath)! I still have to add Barnes&Noble to the list, but it tends to take some time for ebooks to show up there. Soon, though!

I hope you’ll all understand 🙂 Have a lovely day! ❤️

AUGUST 2020 Writing Update: Strange Summer Holidays Part 2 + Heatwave of Despair: how it made me see sense

AUGUST 2020 Writing Update: Strange Summer Holidays Part 2 + Heatwave of Despair: how it made me see sense

August is already drawing to an end. August, the month of a seemingly never-ending heatwave. August, the month in which I released the second installment to the Kissing Monsters series. August, the month in which I realized… I was still in the midst of my summer holidays and it’s okay to slow down a bit.

Let’s dive in deeper, shall we?

• Writing: KISSING NIGHTMARES

Keeping my writing-momentum, I kicked off August working on the fifth installment to the Kissing Monsters series, KISSING NIGHTMARES — and finished it in about a week 🙂

I really loved working on book 5! It allowed me to explore the world I’ve created for this series even deeper, and the story lines are growing and becoming more complex. Also, I just love writing about the growing love between Kiss and Zane~

Alas, I can’t tell you guys more details about writing the book without giving away any spoilers, but… as KISSING NIGHTMARES is due for a release date early 2021, I can safely say next year all will be revealed 😉

img_2364

• The Never-ending Heatwave of Despair

Okay, okay, this might be a little over-dramatic, but I gotta say, while it was rather chilly and rainy in July, the summer certainly made up for all that by returning with a vengeance in August!

I’ve never known any heatwave to linger on for such a long time as this one. I’m used to them ending after three days, but this one went on for an entire week—and then came back in fits and starts the days after, as the temperature kept dropping and rising. It was pretty intense and while I can handle heat pretty well, even I started to feel a bit… well, uncomfortable toward the end 😉

However, the heatwave did have its perks; it actually forced me to slow down. My brain was absolute toast, so I barely even felt like writing (and having a laptop on your lap isn’t very “fun” during a heatwave either 😛 ), so I spent my days reading, drawing and playing video games instead. I had a lot of fun, and it reminded me that I chose July and August to take it easy and recharge — and so, that it is all right for me not to be writing all the time.

I still have a couple of weeks left, so I’m allowing myself to relax some more before I get back to writing full-time in September 😀

2000_MU_KissingShadows

• New Release: KISSING SHADOWS

On August 18th I celebrated the release of the second book in the darkly romantic Kissing Monsters series, KISSING SHADOWS!

I’m so excited that the series is finally truly kicking off, because the story has developed dramatically since book 1, and I’m so happy I can finally share it with you guys ❤️

— It’s available for $0.99 on Amazon!

Oh, and have you already watched the book trailer?

• Brainstorming for KISSING FLAMES

Yes, I know, I just told you I decided to slow down for the remaining weeks of my summer holidays — BUT.

I JUST CAN’T HELP MYSELF.

Really, I very well can’t shut off my brain, now can I?

Last week I’ve been working on the plot outline for book 6 in the Kissing Monsters series, entitled KISSING FLAMES. And it was going really well, but I soon felt that something was missing and not working; let’s just say that there are two major story lines in this book, and I was rushing one of them… and the other one was developing too slowly, as a matter of fact.

During the weekend I took a break from my laptop to do some decent brainstorming, and after a couple of days I found the solution. I actually finished the final version of the plot outline yesterday, which means the book is ready to be written whenever I feel like it 😀

• Coming up: September

I’ll still be taking it easy during the first bit of September (after all, my birthday is coming up soon! Yay!), but I already have loads of plans. First of all, it’s time to get back to editing, so my team and I will do revisions on KISSING SCARLET (Kissing Monsters 3, to be released September 29th) as well as The Nocturne Files (Insomnia Saga 2.5, to be released October 27th).

It’s my plan to spend this autumn and winter to finish writing both the Kissing Monsters series and the Insomnia Saga! I’m really excited about it, because I can’t wait to start working on the 80.000 other projects living in the back of my mind, screaming for attention — though on the other hand, it also makes me feel a bit sad, because it means I’ll have to say goodbye to my characters pretty soon.

Especially finishing the Insomnia Saga will be a strange experience, since I’ve been working on the project since 2017; Jodi and Kay have been on my mind on a daily basis for years… but I guess you have to let go of your characters at some point. However, I’ll still have lots of editing to do after that, so it won’t be a true good-bye 😉

img_2365

To be honest, before the heatwave opened my eyes and I realized it’s all right to slow down a little, I had this insane plan that I wanted to have both series finished by the end of this year, so I could immediately start up 2021 working on new projects; which would mean I had about 4 months left to write 6 books.

Okay, to be fair, 5 of them are of novella length, but… really, what was I thinking? And why am I rushing things like that? I’m already far ahead of my publishing schedule; I already have a few finished manuscripts all done and waiting to be released during the first couple of months of 2021, so really, there is absolutely no need for me to be in such a hurry.

Next to that, I don’t want to become some kind of soulless writing machine: I write because I’m passionate about it, and because I love spending time with my own made-up characters in worlds I’ve also created myself. (After all, that’s what a writer does, right?)

So, I’ve made a deal with myself for when I get back to work in September: yes, I am going to finish writing my series. Yes, I’ll probably end up writing most of the books this year, so I’ll probably only have about one or two of them left to write at the start of 2021. But for now it’s still 2020 and this year has been crazy enough already, and I just want to enjoy.

I choose to enjoy my writing to the fullest — and hell, even the editing process, although I have to confess that’s my least favorite part of my work. But I also choose to enjoy other things and making time for them: like reading a good book, playing a fun video game, photography, you name it.

Every year, to me September feels like the beginning of something new, even more so than January does. I suppose you could say these are my “new year’s” resolutions for September: to enjoy my writing and to enjoy life to the fullest. The world is already brimming with anxious, restless feelings — and really, I’m done adding mine to it.

So! I’m excited for September, and can’t wait to start writing full time again… yet for now, I’ll be spending the following couple of weeks mostly slouched on the couch 😛

Thank you for reading ❤️

2000_MU_KissingScarlet

COMING UP NEXT MONTH: On September 29th we’ll be celebrating the release of KISSING SCARLET, book 3 in the Kissing Monsters series! The love story of Kiss and Zane will continue — and another character will be added to the cast…~

JUNE 2020 Writing Update: NOCTURNE’s book birthday + KISSING SHADOWS & SCARLET + my books on Kindle Unlimited + writeaholic

JUNE 2020 Writing Update: NOCTURNE’s book birthday + KISSING SHADOWS & SCARLET + my books on Kindle Unlimited + writeaholic

And here we are yet again: at the end of another month.

June has been very busy for me (though I think I keep telling you guys that about almost every month, don’t I? xD), but it has been great and another month for me to look back at with a sense of satisfaction and excitement.

Let’s dive right in, shall we? 😀

2000_MU_Nocturne_Pink

• Celebrating NOCTURNE’s book birthday

This month I could finally celebrate the release of NOCTURNE, the second full-length installment in the Insomnia Saga, in which Jodi and Kay return and their story continues, picking up three months after the end of INSOMNIA!

The first half of June, however, my book designer and I were working hard to make the release actually possible, by creating the ebook edition as well as the paperback and book trailers. The process has been incredibly fun, even though at some point we had a bit of a setback regarding the paperback; there were some unexpected technical issues with the publisher, which is why—even though the book has already been officially released last week on June 23rd—I  got my copy of the paperback in the mail only last weekend. It kind of disrupted our careful planning, but well; the book is here now, and once more, it is such a rush to be able to hold a physical copy of my own book in my hands ❤️

If you haven’t already, check out NOCTURNE‘s book trailer!:

• NOCTURNE is available on Amazon worldwide in paperback edition for $14.99

• NOCTURNE is available on Amazon worldwide in ebook edition for $3.99

+ NOCTURNE’s ebook edition is also available through Kindle Unlimited!

2000_MU_KissingMonsters_v2

• Developments on the Kissing Monsters series; it’s growing!

As you might have read on my blog and social media, I’m also working on another series next to the Insomnia Saga.

Kissing Monsters is a Dark Fantasy Romance series (which, I repeat, heavily focuses on romance!❤️), from which I released KISSING MONSTERS (book 1) earlier this year on Valentine’s Day. It was supposed to remain a stand alone short story, but Kiss and Zane stole my heart and their story began to grow in rapid pace.

Which is why I can now announce that book 2, KISSING SHADOWS, is coming this summer in ebook edition only (just like book 1)!

Also, last week I finished writing book 3, which is entitled KISSING SCARLET… and will also be released this year 🙂

After some planning and looking at the developments in the story line, I’ve decided that the series will consist of 8 books total. All of them will be released in ebook only, but I’ll also be releasing two paperback editions in which the first four and the last four books will be included—so for those of you who just love physical copies of books (like me!), they are coming!

I’ll announce the official release dates for KISSING SHADOWS and KISSING SCARLET next week, so please, stay tuned! 😀

• Decisions to make as a Writer: my books now on Kindle Unlimited!

While working on the publication of NOCTURNE, I’ve also made a final decision about something I’d been thinking about for a while now.

I’ve decided to enroll all of my ebooks in KDP select.

This is a special program on Amazon, and enrolling in it now gives me the opportunity to offer my ebooks for free (for a limited amount of days every three months) on Amazon. Also, it automatically makes my books available through Kindle Unlimited, which allows readers to read as many books they want for—I believe—$9.99 a month; so readers who are subscribed to KU can now read my ebooks, and I’ll receive royalties of sorts from Amazon for every page that has been read 🙂

Me enrolling my ebooks in KDP also means that my ebooks are, from now on, exclusively available on Amazon, and can no longer be found on sites such as Kobo and Barnes&Noble. At first I was convinced it was very important for me to be featured in all kinds of online bookstores, but after doing some research on the last five months or so, I realized that of all the books I’d sold, had all been sold through Amazon. Not a single one had been ordered through another store, and my readers and buyers have come from all over the world—from the United States to the Netherlands.

This made me realize my decision wouldn’t be an inconvenience to my readers at all; and I believe the KDP program and Kindle Unlimited will certainly be able to help me grow in my career as an author ❤️ I’m very excited about this, and weirdly enough, have already noticed a (careful) increase in sales in the past week. Coincidence? Don’t know, but I’m not complaining, and I’ll just see what the future brings as I’ll release more new books 😉

• Writeaholic: I CANNOT STOP

It’s true. I don’t know what’s happening to me the last few months, but I honestly can’t seem to stop writing.

Sure, it has always been my passion, but the last few years (ever since I started publishing my books) I found myself wanting some time off whenever the summer came around, feeling tired and needing some time to find some fresh inspiration.

Not this year.

As always, I’m granting myself a summer break of sorts in July and August. My holiday starts next week, and although I do plan to make some time to get some more reading and video gaming done (and perhaps even a bit of drawing for the fun of it)… I don’t think I’ll be able to take a true break off writing.

I just don’t feel like it.

The only change, however, is that I’ll be living on a slower pace (not getting up as early as usual!) and that I won’t have to do any editing on manuscripts. All I can focus on the next two months is writing, which, let’s be honest, is my most favorite part of the entire writing process 😉

So. Yep. I’m an official writeaholic (even though my spelling check keeps arguing with me that isn’t a word), and one of the projects I’m excited to work on in July will be the fourth installment to the Kissing Monsters series!

Well, I guess this was a fine update on June 2020! The world has gone insane around me. The government is already easing up on restrictions. But really, I am staying indoors this summer to keep my family and myself safe (no matter what some people claim, the virus “not being so dangerous” and all), and I’m convinced I’ll have the best of fun writing and simply enjoying my time off 🙂

I hope you’ll all have a great summer too, despite our current circumstances, and that you’ll remain safe and healthy.

• Don’t forget: I’ll be announcing official Insomnia Saga and Kissing Monsters release dates next week, so stay tuned! There is a summer release among those…

NEW RELEASE | OUT NOW: NOCTURNE (Insomnia Saga 2) + The Insomnia Files paperback edition

I have changed.
Castle Insomnia has broken something deep inside of me.

Jodi Collins and Kay Somnus return

+ NOCTURNE’s ebook edition is also available through Kindle Unlimited!

Watch the official book trailer:

• NOCTURNE (Insomnia Saga #2)

I have changed.
Castle Insomnia has broken something deep inside of me.
“Jodi,” I can still hear her drawl, “my precious, little Sleepwalker.”

Jodi Collins and Kay Somnus return.

Three months ago, they defeated the strongest Nightprowler the world had ever seen; three months ago, they were accused of conspiring with Annabelle, and had to run for their lives; three months ago, they decided to raise their own army: Insomnia.

Jodi and Kay, still living in hiding, secretly travel from city to city to exorcise Nightprowlers and spread the name of Insomnia. Their army is growing, but so is the hatred towards Sleepwalkers—new laws have been passed, rights have been stolen, and the world is becoming a divided place.

But Jodi has changed. While fighting them, she fears the demons of the Night in a way she never did before, and she might be on the verge of losing the only weapon she has: her Light.

Meanwhile, both Kay’s family and his own dark past catch up to him, forcing him to fight the hardest battle he has ever fought in his life: opening up to those around him, while he knows a piece of the Night is still clinging to his soul.

With the arrival of the mysterious but violent Soulless Army, Jodi starts to believe Annabelle might very well be alive—and as the world grows darker, enemies gather, and Jodi’s and Kay’s paths divide, any-thing seems possible.

Jodi will have to fight for her Light, Kay will have to save her, and together they will have to accept they are both soldiers in an inevitable war.

They might have defeated Annabelle.
But the fight is far from over.

Writing NOCTURNE has been intense, and the book has gone through many changes; as some of you probably know, I actually started writing the Insomnia Saga books in Dutch, and at first I had planned to write only two books since it was supposed to be a duology.

The story kept on evolving in my head, however, the characters began to grow and turned out to have many more sides to them and secrets that had to be unraveled, and I soon realized I simply couldn’t fit all of this into just two books — which was why I began writing the second book time and time again, until I finally realized what I had to do:

If I wanted to do this story and my characters any justice, I had to add more books to this series 😉

After that decision, I began working on book 2 once more — and this time, everything just flowed. And that has resulted in the book I’m releasing today: NOCTURNE.

As I said, writing NOCTURNE has been an intense experience, not just because I had to start over several times, but also because it felt a bit darker than INSOMNIA and because I got to know Jodi and Kay a whole lot better… and discovered some painful moments in their pasts, yet also in their present life: as the blurb says, Jodi has changed, and I could truly feel her struggling with that while writing.

I sincerely hope you, my readers, can feel it too — and will keep on rooting for her along the way 🙂

• The Insomnia Files (Insomnia Saga 1.5) paperback release OUT NOW

As I released the Insomnia Saga‘s first short story collection back in April, entitled The Insomnia Files, COVID-19 had just broken out all across the world a few weeks prior. We all experienced a certain amount of anxiety — and, well, so did I, which made me feel a little uncomfortable ordering physical copies of books, etc., online. Which was why I postponed the release of The Insomnia Files‘ paperback.

In hindsight, I might’ve been a bit (well, VERY) overly cautious and let my anxiety talk a bit too loudly — I apologize for that! ^^”

However, to make it up, I’m releasing The Insomnia Files in paperback today! It’s available on Amazon worldwide 🙂

• You can order your copy here for $8.99!

MAY 2020 Writing Update: the ORIGINS of awesome writing

MAY 2020 Writing Update: the ORIGINS of awesome writing

Okay, first of all — I’d like to apologize for the slightly lame title of this post x”D I thought it was pretty witty, actually, looking at the fact that I wrote my book, ORIGINS, this month… and working on it had been awesome, so…

Yeah. Well.

Let’s move on and dive right into May’s writing update! For me it has been a month of success and inspiration, and I’d love to tell you guys more about it! 😀 Let’s go:

• ORIGINS: the manuscript is finished!

Yes, you read that right! In April’s writing update I already told you guys I wanted to finish writing ORIGINS (Insomnia Saga 3) in May… and well, if you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know I usually always complete the tasks I set for myself 😉

I finished writing ORIGINS during the second week of May. I’d been writing like a maniac for days straight; I just kept on going, finishing one chapter after another, because I had to finish this book…

And then, suddenly, I’d written the book’s epilogue. And that was that.

It felt awesome, though I must admit it was also slightly anticlimactic — first I’d wanted nothing more but to finish the manuscript (because I have SO MANY other ideas crowding this brain of mine), but the moment I was done, I honestly was a bit disappointed that the journey had come to an end.

Because writing ORIGINS certainly was one hell of a journey; of course, I’ve put my heart and soul into every installment of the Insomnia Saga, but this being the latest book I’ve worked on causes me to be a bit overly “attached” to it, so to speak 😉 I absolutely loved the process, especially because it went so smoothly. The characters felt truly alive to me and every idea I had for this book just seemed to fit in with the plot perfectly.

I managed to put every scene that was in my head for this book into the manuscript — I just LOVE that ❤️

ORIGINS was written in 6 weeks and 1 day! (yes, I checked)

I actually can’t wait to share ORIGINS with you — but… book 2 still needs to be published x”D The wait is nearly over, though; NOCTURNE (Insomnia Saga 2) will be released in ebook and paperback next month!

Now I’ve got several spin-offs left to write for the Insomnia Saga, and I hope to begin working on book 4, SOMNUS, by the end of this year 🙂

• NOCTURNE official coming soon trailer

Speaking of NOCTURNE…

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, I’d like to share NOCTURNE’s official coming soon trailer that went online last week! Personally, I’m totally fangirling over the spookiness of it~

NOCTURNE releases in ebook and paperback on June 23rd!

As I said before, the wait is almost over! I hope you guys are just as excited as I am 😉

If you’re curious, I’m sharing some quotes of NOCTURNE on my Instagram feed, so go ahead and check it out!

BEHIND THE SCENES SEP 2018 - Brainstorming

• Brainstorming madness

After I finished writing ORIGINS, I actually thought I was supposed to take a break off writing or something. I don’t know why, but for some reason I expected myself to take it easy for a bit.

My brain works in mysterious ways.

However, literally a few hours after I finished ORIGINS, I already realized I just didn’t want to stop writing, I didn’t need a break: I wanted to go on.

So that’s exactly what I did; I began working on plot outlines for several projects that have been living in my mind for a while now, and I’m not sure what is going on in that head of mine these days, but it’s like I’m unstoppable.

Within a week, I wrote the complete plot outlines for the stories included in the Insomnia Saga short story collection, The Origins Files (Insomnia Saga 3.5), and for the third installment to the Kissing Monsters series, which is entitled KISSING SCARLET.

After I’d finished those, I began working on the plot outline for another book, which will be the first installment to yet another series! I’m not able yet to tell you guys everything, except that it’s going to be a series of stand alone installments of dark, romantic fantasy stories ❤️ I’m very excited about this project, so I hope I’ll be able to share more soon! I’m currently really enjoying the plot outline/brainstorming process. It’s going very well, and I expect to have it finished by the end of this afternoon, as a matter of fact 🙂

The “problem” I have with writing all these plot outlines, however, is that every time I finish one, my hands are itching to start writing the actual manuscripts x”D I don’t, though, because writing all of these plot outlines first is part of my amazing-summer-writing plan (wait for it, here it comes):

In two weeks’ time, I’ll be joining my designer to make NOCTURNE‘s ebook, paperback and book trailer. After that, there will be one or two weeks left of June, and in July/August I’m taking a bit of a summer break, as I do every year, in which I allow myself to do some other stuff besides writing (like reading and playing video games~). However, I’m so full of inspiration these days, that I don’t really want to stop, so I’m working ahead now by finishing all of those plot outlines, so I can just sit down during my summer break and start writing, without having to think through and solve plot-issues.

That’s like the summer-holiday version of writing, right? Next to that, I won’t have to edit a single manuscript in July and August, so I can focus entirely on my favorite part: simply writing my books ❤️

Sounds pretty neat, huh?

All right, I suppose this wraps up May pretty nicely! I’ve done a lot of writing, as usual, and am thoroughly enjoying the process 😀 I’m also currently editing NOCTURNE in the mornings — it’s the final round of revisions before we’re going to turn it into an actual book! I can’t wait to hold it in my hands~

Oh, right — did you see last week’s special blog post on my 5 Tips & Tricks for a high-productivity-healthy-indoors-lifestyle? If not and you’re interested, please check it out! I’m sharing my own favorite tricks for getting the most out of each day while in quarantine, so maybe you get something out of it as well 🙂 It’s an article full of inspiration, chasing dreams, fitness, yoga, meditation and even tai chi!

Next month will be NOCTURNE‘s release month, so expect loads of awesomeness coming your way! I hope to see you there 😉

As always, thanks so much for reading! If you’ve got any questions or just like to say hi, feel free to drop me a line in the comments section below! ❤️

APRIL 2020 Writing Update: Another INSOMNIA SAGA release, writing ORIGINS & indoors living awesomeness

APRIL 2020 Writing Update: Another INSOMNIA SAGA release, writing ORIGINS & indoors living awesomeness

Hey there, Sleepwalkers!

How are you all doing? How is your quarantine life going? Whenever I’m on social media (which is at least a few times a day, haha), I see so many different people and reactions. Some are terribly anxious and struggling to get anything done, others are angry and frustrated because they can’t go outside, and then there are those who truly seem to enjoy themselves at home and are even improving their lifestyle.

I’m one of the latter, actually — to be honest, being a writer and a rather “indoorsy” person, not much has changed for me, except for the fact that I can’t go outside for my runs and walks, which is a shame really, because I enjoy being outside and feel the sun on my skin. However, the mere thought of catching this virus is enough to keep me indoors. I know that I tend to add horror elements to my books, but that doesn’t mean I want to experience something horrific either, y’know? 😉

But how am I improving my lifestyle and how is this affecting my writing? I’ll tell you all about it in this April Writing Update:

2000_MU_TheInsomniaFiles_RED

• NEW RELEASE: The Insomnia Files (Insomnia Saga 1.5)

This month kicked off with a great start — on April 7th I released the second installment of the Insomnia Saga: The Insomnia Files, a short story collection that allows the reader to dive deeper into the Insomnia Saga‘s universe, world-building, and the characters’ lives and histories.

The Insomnia Files includes three short stories about Jodi, Kay, and Alain Somnus — the third a key-character introduced during the last few chapters of INSOMNIA. Not much information is given about him in the book, but this short story will certainly explain a few things about Alain 😉

If you’d like to find out more, check out the RELEASE BLOG POST or visit the official INSOMNIA SAGA page ?

• ORIGINS: writing book 3

Ooh yes, you read that right! This month I began working on ORIGINS, book three in the Insomnia Saga 🙂

I wrote the plot outline for the first half of the book back in March, but had been wanting to work on this project since December — ever since I finished writing book 2, NOCTURNE, actually 😀 So when I finally began writing ORIGINS this month, I didn’t hold back at all and wrote like hell.

I even started adapting a new writing “technique”, so to speak: I keep on writing without reading anything I wrote. Yep. Even when I sit down again the next morning, I don’t even bother reading what I’ve written the previous day. After all, it’s not like I’ve forgotten what I wrote, now did I? 😉

No, in all seriousness, this saves an incredible amount of time and really ups my productivity. During the first couple of weeks, I think I wrote about 3 chapters a day. I’m on 2 now, because I’ve started editing a manuscript in the mornings (more about that below!), but it still works really well for me.

Which is why I’ve already written the first 254 pages of ORIGINS — which also happens to mean that the first two parts of the book are finished. Whenever I finish an entire part, I do take the time to read back what I wrote, though!

Anyway, only three more parts to go; and since these last three parts aren’t going to be that much work (I think; it’s pretty straightforward), I wonder whether I’ll manage to finish the book in May… Who knows, right? It would be cool, because that means I have some time before the publication of NOCTURNE (Insomnia Saga 2; coming June 23rd!) to work on some smaller projects ?

I’ll be spending the rest of this week writing the plot outline for the remaining 3 parts of ORIGINS ?

2000_MU_Nocturne

• NOCTURNE: editing book 2

Last week I began editing the second full-length installment in the Insomnia Saga, NOCTURNE, after working through the amazing notes I got from my beta readers, who have been reading the manuscript during February/March.

I’m actually really enjoying the editing process! To be honest, I was kind of dreading it at first — not because I hate revisions that much, but because I was worried it would cut down my productivity/speed while working on ORIGINS. But I’ve kind of been living by schedules since last week, and it truly helps; editing goes smoothly because I’m breaking it apart in smaller portions (this keeps me focused), and writing still goes well because I have plenty of time left for it.

So, all is going well; I’m really looking forward to NOCTURNE‘s release in June! By the way, in May I’ll be sharing a really cool teaser trailer for the book, so if you haven’t subscribed to my YouTube channel already, please do!

• High productivity and improved lifestyle

Like I said, because of everything that’s going on with COVID-19 and being forced to stay indoors constantly, I have made some (minor) changes to my lifestyle. Minor, yes, yet I feel they’re having a huge impact on me — in a very positive way, that is ❤️

Usually I’m not one for living by schedules. I think it actually sounds rather neurotic. AND YET. Because I wanted to keep my productivity high while writing ORIGINS and I had to start editing NOCTURNE, I decided to give it a try.

And I’m loving it.

Next to bookish things, I’m also scheduling my workouts. I used to go out for runs and walks, mostly in the mornings, but ever since I can’t, I caught myself slacking off a bit. I still did my indoor workouts in the evenings (I already did those before all this), but my “daylight training” (for a lack of a better description, haha) was kind of non-existent… and I didn’t like that, because my health is important to me, and I actually LOVE working out. On top of that, I always notice that working out regularly not only makes me stronger physically but mentally as well; it makes me feel fit and alert and focused, which increases my productivity in, yes, writing!

I’ve been sharing my schedules for fun in my Instagram stories, but to give you an idea, here’s what yesterday’s looked like:

MORNING

— edit 15 pages of NOCTURNE

— WORKOUT: 30 minute HIIT

— edit 15 pages of NOCTURNE

— write blog post

AFTERNOON

— work on plot outline ORIGINS

EVENING

— WORKOUT: 50 minute cardio kickboxing + strength training

…Well. That looks rather nice, doesn’t it? ?

It’s also really satisfying to check off those boxes — it makes me feel productive and pretty dynamic actually 😀

However, like I said at the beginning, not that much has changed for me. I’m already used to being at home a lot, which has made me think about sharing an actual blog post about it with some tips I could give other people… but then dozens of other posts shared by other “experts” ( 😛 ) already popped up all over the internet, making me wonder what I could possibly add to all this?

What do you guys think? Would you like to read my tips and tricks for a high-productivity-indoors-lifestyle? Let me know!

All right, no matter how much fun I’m having writing this update, I guess it’s time for me to wrap this up (THE SCHEDULE SPEAKS).

I’ll be working on the plot outline for ORIGINS this week, and in May I’ll be focusing on editing NOCTURNE, writing ORIGINS and possibly work on some small side-projects, though that’s still to be seen 😉

I’m feeling healthy. I’m feeling great and energized and focused. I hope the same goes for you guys, or that you’ll feel better and inspired very soon ❤️

Stay home, stay safe. For you, your family, and every single person out there. We all share this space on Earth, so let’s make the most of it and show respect. (I know many of you do, though 😉 )

Thank you for reading! Please feel free to leave a message below 🙂

NEW RELEASE | OUT NOW: The Insomnia Files (Insomnia Saga 1.5) — eBook edition

NEW RELEASE | OUT NOW: The Insomnia Files (Insomnia Saga 1.5) — eBook edition

Dive deeper into the Insomnia Saga universe

Out today — the very first Insomnia Saga short story collection: The Insomnia Files.

The Insomnia Saga is an action-packed Upper Young Adult Dark Fantasy Romance series, set in a fictional modern world, where people can wield actual Light as a weapon which they use to fight the greatest enemy of mankind—demons, called the Nightprowlers.

The Summoners, the Nightprowlers, Jodi, Kay, we’ve all met them in the first official installment of the series, INSOMNIA — but there is a story behind everything and everyone, and that’s what this collection is all about.

Released as book 1.5 in the series, The Insomnia Files allows the reader to dive deeper into the pasts of Jodi, Kay, and that of the very first Summoner who, a few centuries ago, rose to fight the Nightprowlers: Alain Somnus.

The Insomnia Files is available worldwide in eBook edition; visit this page to find the direct link to your store of preference!

Watch the first official teaser trailer:

• The Insomnia Files (Insomnia Saga #1.5)

The Insomnia Files contains three short stories written from three different perspectives, diving deeper into the Insomnia Saga universe.

FILE #1 tells the story of Jodi Collins and takes place four years prior to INSOMNIA: Thirteen years old, Jodi has just started working for the Miller Academy. As she’s sent on a mission on a dark, wintery night, she has no choice but to confront the demons of the Night—and fight them.

In FILE #2 fifteen-year old Kay Somnus is about to take his final exam to become the youngest Summoner in history… but in order to succeed, he will have to pretend—and believe—he is someone he’s not, and forever deny himself his true power.

Alain Somnus, the very first Summoner of Light, is the voice of FILE #3. Hundreds of years ago, he opened a gate and allowed dark powers to spill in that would change the world forever… creating the darkest secret ever kept. Haunted by nightmares and his failure to protect the only girl who had ever managed to touch his heart, he opened the Somnus Academy—but could he live with the lies?

• Paperback release coming later this year

The paperback edition of The Insomnia Files was initially scheduled to be released today alongside the eBook, but because of the current circumstances, the paperback has been postponed. Read all about it here!

I hope to see the paperback released later this year, but… one step at a time 🙂

I’ve really enjoyed working on The Insomnia Files. It allowed me to understand my characters even better, especially Kay and Alain — and Alain’s story, since it takes places literally centuries ago, opened up new possibilities for the series’ future releases: there are more Insomnia Saga short story collections on the way, in which I’ll explain even more about the series’ past, about the very first Summoners who opened their academies and began fighting the Nightprowlers, and especially more about the enigmatic Somnus family.

If you’ve read and liked INSOMNIA, I hope you’ll pick up The Insomnia Files as well and that you’ll enjoy it — and, after reading it, have an even better understanding of the characters’ deepest thoughts and desires, and also the world-building.

The Insomnia Files is available worldwide in eBook edition; visit this page to find the direct link to your store of preference!

Are you new to the Insomnia Saga and would you like a sneak peek? There is also a short story available, written especially for first-time Insomnia Saga readers, introducing Jodi Collins and the world of Summoners, Sleepwalkers and Nightprowlers.

It’s a FREE download and includes the first few chapters of INSOMNIA. Go ahead and check out this page to find your preferred download link!

And…

• INSOMNIA participates in #AuthorsGiveBack: 60% discount on Smashwords!

“Stay home, stay safe” — is has become quite the mantra on social media, as we all encourage each other to stay indoors during these crazy times with COVID-19 on the loose.

To help people find new books to read as they have much more free time on their hands, Smashwords has organized a special discount to do just that, allowing authors to enroll and discount their books.

Because I believe that INSOMNIA is able to help people get through this craziness (and not to be dramatic, but it seems like it’s going to be like this for a while longer), I also enrolled the eBook into Smashword’s Authors Give Back discount; until April 20, I’m giving 60% off on INSOMNIA!

Find it here.

I’m aware that several of you already own the book, but if you happen to know someone who hasn’t read it yet and might like it, please feel free to share this 🙂

I hope that Jodi’s courage will inspire you and give you strength — it certainly helps me ?
