APRIL 2021 Writing Update #1: a 4-year anniversary

APRIL 2021 Writing Update #1: a 4-year anniversary

Hello there, Monster Kissers and Sleepwalkers! โ™ฅ๏ธ

It’s been a little while since my last Writing Update, but this was mostly because I didn’t have a lot of interesting news to share with you yet… and I’ve also actually been waiting until it was the 14th of April to post my update, because this happens to be a rather special date for me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Why, you ask? Well, read on and find out!

(See? I even use tiny cliffhangers in my blog posts these days. I’m on a roll.)

โ€ข a 4-year anniversary

Four years ago, on April 14th 2017, I posted my very first blog post on this very blog, I tweeted my very first tweet, and published my very first post on Facebook, in which I introduced myself to the world as a freshly new indie-author.

Well, actually, I only introduced myself to the Netherlands, since I still wrote my books in Dutch at the time, but anyway โ€” that day was the start of my journey as a published author and I will never forget it, because going down this road is still one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I remember feeling so excited that day, as I could finally start spreading the word of my first book’s release (which came out at the start of June 2017; it was the first installment to a 6-book Fantasy/Horror/Romance series entitled the Schimmenwereld Serie/“Phantom World series”), and everything started to become real. However, to be honest, it was also quite anticlimactic, because obviously, not a soul had heard of me and those first few months I practically drowned in a sea of tweets and posts without anyone noticing me.

But none of that matters! I’ve come pretty far since then, even switched over to English a year ago so I could reach readers internationally, and it has all been the beginning of realizing my dreams. I still have many goals to achieve and dreams to realize, but I’m working hard, and… well, to be honest, are you ever finished realizing goals and dreams? Once you’ve achieved one, a new one will pop up. There’s no rest for the wicked! And crazed writers, obviously ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway. Happy anniversary to me! ๐Ÿ˜€

โ€ข The New Series

In the last Writing Update, I told you that I had finished writing the first book of my brand-new Fantasy Romance series, and that I had sent the manuscript to my beta-readers for their opinion. I was rather nervous, remember?

Well, turned out I didn’t really need to be, because they loved it! I was so relieved. โ™ฅ๏ธ

I’ve already begun working on book 2 and am about halfway through. I expect to have it finished before the end of April, so it’s all going rather smoothly โ€” and my brain’s already brimming with very detailed ideas for book 3!

Also, I have seen the covers for the first two books, as they’ve already been made, and WHOA. Guys, they’re so beautiful!!! I honestly can’t wait to share them with you! It won’t be long now, I’ll stop teasing you real soon, I swear!

Some big reveals and updates are coming in May, so stay tuned! I’ll share some covers, the blurb for book 1, and of course a release date ๐Ÿ™‚

โ€ข Insomnia Saga updates are coming too!

Apart from covers for my new series, I have also seen the final three covers for the Insomnia Saga, and as I stated on Instagram, they look freakishly gorgeous. I’ll share those with you as well (in May, probably? Otherwise June at the latest)!

Also, the revisions for ORIGINS part two are in full swing, which should be finished at the end of this month. The release of the full edition and so the paperback on May 25 is finally drawing near ๐Ÿ˜€

Let’s wrap up this update! I’ve probably teased you guys way too much with promises while I am not showing a single thing, but I swear the wait is almost over! I’m super excited about all the projects I’m working on (as you can probably tell, lol). I actually have a hard time believing it’s only been 4 years since I became a published author โ€” to me, it kind of feels like I’ve been doing this for almost a decade or something ๐Ÿ˜‰ So strange!

Well, in that case, I’ll see you guys on my 10-year anniversary in six years, right~?

Thank you for reading this update, and please be safe and well everyone! โ™ฅ๏ธ

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #2: A Month of Endings and New Beginnings

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #2: A Month of Endings and New Beginnings

Hey there Monster Kissers and Sleepwalkers โ™ฅ๏ธ

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last writing update, but to be honest, it feels like months โ€” probably because I’ve been doing a lot of work… that will result in several new book releases ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, what have I been up to?

โ€ข the release of KISSING PASSION

I know most of you already know this, but I like to touch on KISSION PASSION‘s release of last week anyway, because it is different from other book releases; after all, KISSING PASSION is the eighth and final book in the Kissing Monsters series, marking an end to my latest writing journey.

It still feels a bit unreal, to be honest! I’d actually already said my goodbyes to Kiss, Zane, and the others back when I finished the manuscript in December, but now I feel like I’m doing it all over again thanks to the reviews and words of readers. I just want to thank you all for your amazing support for this series, and forย  loving the ending!

That’s one of the scariest things when finishing a series; I always do my best to tie up all loose ends and write an ending that will leave you satisfied, but I only know for sure I’ve succeeded in that as soon as I hear back from the readers โ€” meaning, it is a RELIEF you all seem to have enjoyed it.

I will forever do my best to keep this up with my future series ๐Ÿ˜€

โ€ข talking of future series…

In my previous writing update I was still working on the first book of my brand new series… and I am proud to say that I have finished the manuscript last week!

Suddenly my manic writing skills kicked in again (as they usually do when I’m working on the final chapters of a book; it’s weird, but it just happens) and I wrote nearly 100 pages in three days. Now that I look back on it, it actually passed me by in a blur โ€” especially that last day, when I wrote nearly 10.000 words. My brain was absolute toast as soon as I’d written that final sentence of the epilogue, but it was so worth it. Pushing through the last chapters of a manuscript at top-speed always gives me quite the adrenaline boost ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve read the entire manuscript on Monday and yesterday, to check whether the overall story line was running smoothly as well as the scenes, and I must say when I finished reading I was feeling rather pleased with my work… but now the nerves have kicked in, because I have sent the manuscript to my beta readers and it’s time to see what they think of it. It’s nerve wracking, I tell you.

However, in any case, I’m planning to launch this new series early summer, so expect some news and revelations during the coming months ๐Ÿ˜€

โ€ข quick Insomnia Saga update

I’ve also been editing the first half of ORIGINS, and the ebook edition of part 1 will release tomorrow! (I’ll publish a blog post on that, of course, so if you’re interested, stay tuned!)

Next week I’m going to dive into the other half, so that one and the complete edition of ORIGINS can finally be released on May 25th in both ebook and paperback โ™ฅ๏ธ Jodi and Kay are back in book 3 of the Insomnia Saga, learning to become stronger and braver than ever in a world that’s quickly turning against them, with dark clouds of the Night looming on the horizon…

All right, those are the most important updates for now! I’m going to work on outlining book 2 of the new series, as well as doing some brainstorming sessions for the remaining Insomnia Saga books that still need to be written. As always, I’ll keep you all posted ๐Ÿ™‚

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #1: Diving Deep into a New World

MARCH 2021 Writing Update #1: Diving Deep into a New World

ย ย ย  โ€œIt is instinct,โ€ Keanu suddenly says, and Leilani looks up slowly. He doesnโ€™t meet her eye. โ€œA life is still a life, an existence, no matter how dark it may be. Even a bad life can be hard to give up on. Because your heart is always insistent on beating on, your lungs on drawing breath. It is instinct,โ€ he repeats, finally lifting his gaze, โ€œto stay alive. And hope for something better.โ€

โ€” quote from The Project That Shall Not Be Revealed… yet โ€”

Yes. You’re reading this right. No. You’re not seeing things that aren’t there.

This is a quote from the first book of the brand new series I am now working on โ€” it is real, it is there; a new book series is coming! ๐Ÿ˜€

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am very HAPPY and very RELIEVED.

I’ll tell you some more in this update. Let’s dive in!

โ€ข The Project That Shall Not Be Revealed… yet

In February’s Writing Update I told you how I was still struggling with the concept for a new book series. I kept on changing my mind, I kept on starting over on the plot outline again and again. I couldn’t decide on anything and none of the angles I came up with felt like the “right one”.

A few days after that update, I actually decided to give up on the project, because it simply drove me insane… and I just had to be honest with myself and admit that now obviously wasn’t the time to work on this story. So, I turned to another project that had been on my mind since 2019 and decided to work on that instead.

To be honest, I felt a bit reluctant at first. Attempting and failing to write the other series had left me feeling a little bit insecure (I was seriously worried I had somehow lost my touch over the Christmas holidays, or something), but as soon as I sat down and began taking notes for my ideas, it all just began to flow.

I’ve been pretty quiet about it, though, because I was still scared I’d change my mind any moment and decide to quit and move on to yet another project. BUT! Luckily, that is not the case, and this new project is slowly stealing my heart as I’m getting to know my new characters…; they’re so fascinating, I just want to find out more about them!!

So, yes, this new project is the real thing, and I enjoy working on it so much~

However, at this point, I still can’t reveal too much โ€” except that the main characters are called Leilani and Keanu (as you’ve probably noticed in the quote I shared above!)… and that it’ll be an ocean/sea themed series with a fantasy and โ€” of course โ€” highly romantic twist ๐Ÿ˜€

And that is all I’m going to say before I get too excited and spill too much~ (CONTROL YOURSELF, WRITER!)

[By the way, I have been getting new ideas for the series I had to give up on! I’m so glad, because it felt like such a shame to quit. Hopefully, in the near future, I’ll be able to write the story after all…)

โ€ข Editing ORIGINS part 1

The revisions on ORIGINS part 1 (to be released March 25th in eBook edition) are in full swing here, and I’m enjoying it so much!! Sometimes I tend to forget editing can actually be fun, instead of just tiring. I don’t know why, though.

However, it’s great to connect with Jodi and Kay again. Reading about them in book 3 gives me so many feels (their relationship is so complex, I’m both frustrated and in love with those two~) and really makes me want to write the fourth and final book. The plan is to at least start working on it this year. It’s going to be so intense… ๐Ÿ˜‰

That is it for now, guys! I’m so glad to be back in my usual writing flow, and I’m really happy to be able to share that with you all in this first Writing Update of March 2021 โ™ฅ๏ธ I’m really excited for the upcoming months, and I’ll keep you all posted on the new book series! I’m planning to reveal some more after April, when the final book in the Kissing Monsters series is released… Stay tuned!

FEBRUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: Words in the Snow

FEBRUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: Words in the Snow

February is here and oooh, how cold it is โ€” it began snowing last weekend and kept snowing until Tuesday. It’s also been quite stormy, so even our balcony got covered in whiteness! I felt a bit like a little kid when I got out of bed Sunday morning and opened the curtains ๐Ÿ˜€

As you can tell, I really like snow. It just makes the winter feel less “pointless”, you know? I mean, if it has to be cold all the time and the trees have to be bare, at least give me something in return. Like snow.

The thing is, snowy days really inspire me. It just looks magical and makes the outside world appear extra cold when you’re nice and warm inside your home, and it also makes me want to write more, or read more, play more video games, etc. I guess because it makes everything feel extra cozy.

Anyway, let’s touch on some other points for this update!

โ€ข Operation Book Publication Preparations: SUCCESSFUL

Last week my book designer and I worked our butts off to prepare the final three Kissing Monsters installments for their publications in February, March, and April (KISSING SECRETS, KISSING PASSION, and the second Kissing Monsters Collection), meaning we had to create the eBooks, design the paperback edition for the Collection, update the website, make the book trailers, schedule them, etc.

It was super busy, and I actually don’t know how we’ve managed all this in about 4 to 5 days, but we did it! I’m totally prepared for the book releases now, and really looking forward to them ๐Ÿ˜€

โ€ข Editing ORIGINS โ€” part one

This week I sat down to edit the first half of ORIGINS (Insomnia Saga 3), which will be released in eBook only edition on March 25th (I told you guys more about this in last week’s blog post).

It was pretty exciting for me to dive back into this project, as I’ve written the manuscript almost a year ago. I even managed to surprise myself a few times, because I’d totally forgotten what happened next, lol~ Guess that’s a given when you write several manuscripts a year. It’s impossible to keep track of every single detail.

Anyway, the editing went smoothly and I’ve already sent the manuscript to my beta-readers. Jodi and Kay will return very soon… ๐Ÿ™‚

โ€ข The Big New Project

Since I’m done editing, I now (finally!) have a couple of weeks ahead of me in which I can write full time, meaning I can invest all of my time in the New Project. In my last Writing Update I told you about my struggles in finding the right angle for this story. In that very blog post I said I had finally found the best way to tell this story โ€” and yet, a couple of days later, I realized yet again that it still wasn’t good enough.

(This resulted in some hysterical laughter.)

I’ve begun working on the plot outline (again) yesterday. And then started all over again today, because my mind is still in utter chaos and I can’t seem to decide which angle to go with! I really hope I’ll be able to start writing this book for real soon, since this is starting to get… well, annoying, actually, lol. I’m not used to changing my mind over a story this often!

Anyway, I do already have several detailed ideas for at least three sequels, so I am excited to see where this series is going… Now just try to write book 1 first ๐Ÿ˜‰

That’s it for now! See you guys in the next update โ™ฅ๏ธ

Question of the day! โ€” Do you like snow?

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #2: How I Managed to Freak Myself Out

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #2: How I Managed to Freak Myself Out

Well hello there, everyone~

As it’s already the final week of January, I figured another Writing Update would be in order. Some of you might have seen some smaller updates on my social media during the last couple of weeks… and might have noticed I was on the verge of some kind of Mental-Breakdown-for-Crazed-Writers, especially last week (nothing too serious, I promise, lol).

So โ€” WHAT HAPPENED?

I’ll explain.

โ€ข Chaotic Fantasy

In my previous Writing Update I told you guys that I was about to embark on a new journey by starting on a brand new book series. That’s always a fun, exciting thing, right? I thought so too.

But the thing is, my mind is so full with so many ideas, that I had a hard time focusing on anything during the first few days. Anyway, in the end I finally managed to concentrate again (without feeling like some kind of loopy monkey that’d rather bounce around all day), and I had all these crazy ideas for the story, all these background information for my characters, a massive amount of world-building, an impossible love story… all the ingredients needed for a series.

However, it was all too much.

Every time I had outlined a few chapters, I realized things were getting way too complicated and messy โ€” really, I didn’t want to put my readers through this mess, and actually? The thought of having to write out these chapters kind of made me feel… exhausted. The story was getting out of hand before I even truly started it, and I had a tough time sorting it all out.

I soon realized the key was to simplify the story, by taking out some characters and events and saving them for later books.

That helped.

Yet still wasn’t the solution. I kept on struggling and thinking, until last week โ€” on Thursday night โ€” I truly thought I had it; but when I woke up on Friday and went through my morning routine, I realized my ideas were absolute crap and that I still hadn’t found the right way to tell this story. To be honest, for a moment there I was about to give up on the entire project and move on to another one.

UNTIL… seriously, I think the minute after thinking that, the minute after figuring I should just let go of it for now… I got this amazing idea.

And from that idea, another one unfurled. And another one. Before I knew it, my usual brainstorming flow kicked in, and the ideas and solutions just kept on coming, and finally, I had found the best way to introduce the world and give voice to the characters, who had been starting to feel like wooden puppets to me that just stood around, gaping at me while waiting for me to tell them what to do, rather than breathing humans who tell the story instead.

Which means? I am back. I took the entire weekend off just to take notes and let it all grow inside my mind, and since this Monday I’ve been working on yet another plot outline โ€” and this time I am truly getting excited about this project and falling in love with the characters ๐Ÿ˜€

โ€ข Freaky Times

In all honesty, last week I got a bit worried. I seriously felt like I had somehow “lost my touch” and wasn’t, for some reason, able to coherently tell a story anymore. I began to wonder how the hell I ever began a new series without losing myself in a mountain of ideas.

But that is exactly what helped me figure it out; I always tell myself, when I begin a new series, I have to start out simple. The complications and details can be introduced later in the sequels, as the story and characters evolve. That way, as a writer, I evolve with them โ€” and so do the readers.

It’s quite simple, actually, but I was kind of lost for a bit. And yes, that freaked me out big time ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyways, I’m back in business again, and very excited to see where this new story is going. As soon as I can share more with you all, I will! ๐Ÿ˜‰

That’s it for this week’s Writing Update! I’m already gearing up for February, in which it is time to prepare the final books of Kissing Monsters for their releases… An update on that will be up on the blog next week!

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: The Return of the Writer Girl

JANUARY 2021 Writing Update #1: The Return of the Writer Girl

Hi there Monster Kissers, and welcome to my very first Writing Update of 2021 โค๏ธ

If you’re following me on social media, you’d probably noticed I was rather quiet on there during the last three weeks…

โ€ข Writer Girl became Gamer Girl

That’s because I actually, truly, took some time off.

In 2020 I’ve practically been writing non-stop, and even in December I had no means of slowing down. However, at the start of my holidays I treated myself to a new video game I’d been wanting to play for months (but simply didn’t allow myself to buy “because I was too busy”), and I got so absorbed in it that I simply stopped thinking about writing. YES. I even stopped taking notes. I just allowed myself to completely lose myself in the game’s story and world, and I am so glad I did that โ€” that I’ve given myself that “gift”, so to speak ๐Ÿ˜€

(In case you’re wondering, the game I’m talking about is the amazing Final Fantasy VII Remake โ€” I’ve been a huge fan of the franchise ever since the movie “Advent Children” came out when I was 13, and wow, I’ve fallen head over heels with the world and characters all over again. It’s just magical. If you’re into action RPG games with dizzying sword fights and an emotional and mind-bending storyline, I highly recommend it.)

(In case you’re wondering, no, I’m not being paid to advertise this game, lol)

Sorry, I went off-topic here: what I’m actually trying to say is that I have really enjoyed my time off, and that it has been so good for me. I’ve come up with all new kinds of ideas and concepts for book series I’m working on or want to write, simply by taking a break and doing something completely different ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m feeling so well-rested, and only now realize how much I’ve needed to wind down and just let go of stuff.

โ€ข Back to work… slowly

I’ve been back in business since Monday, quick-editing the manuscripts of Kissing Monsters books 7 and 8… but I’m feeling a bit less fanatical than usual, meaning I’m allowing myself an hour or so at the end of each day to play my current video game obsession some more ๐Ÿ˜‰ Normally I don’t do that, because I’m usually too disciplined to “indulge” myself, lol~ (I’m a real nutter, I guess.)

However, it’s actually important for me to start things up slowly again. Now that the final revisions of the Kissing Monsters books are drawing near, it means that I’m on the verge of actually wrapping up the project… which will give me time to take on a new one, next to working on the Insomnia Saga (I expect to finish writing this series this year also).

In December I excitedly told you guys about a new book I’d been working on, that started out as a stand-alone and then turned into a series. I’ve gotten lots of new ideas for this project, though at this point I’m not entirely sure yet that it will be the one I’ll be working on soon. As I said above, many things have changed in that brain of mine ever since I took time off, and right now my mind and inspiration are all over the place.

For now I’m writing down ideas for several series, hoping that it’ll help me figure out what new project I’d like to tackle ๐Ÿ™‚

This is it for now, guys! I’m excited about all the books I will be writing this year, especially because at this point I’m not even sure which they’ll be yet (this is new for me, lol). As always, I’ll keep you posted!

โ€” Lynn

DECEMBER 2020 Writing Update #2: Google Play Witchcraft

DECEMBER 2020 Writing Update #2: Google Play Witchcraft

Heโ€™s not just handsome. Heโ€™s striking in a way that causes a heart to trip and a breath to catch.

ย ย ย  Alice never realized before that beauty could be threatening.

ย ย ย  Until now.

โ€” quote from secret project โ€”

Well, this update sure starts out rather mysterious, huh? Suddenly Google Play has been linked to witchcraft, and I’m sharing quotes from a “secret project”…

If I still haven’t grabbed your attention by now, I’m not sure anymore what else to to ๐Ÿ˜‰

โ€ข All of my ebooks are now also available on Google Play

They are!! I’m pretty excited about this, because I noticed there is quiet a number of people who buy their ebooks on Google Play instead of Amazon or Kobo โ€” and since I want my books to be available for as many readers as possible, worldwide, this feels like a rather important step ๐Ÿ™‚

So, if you’re interested, you can check out my catalogue here.

But… what does Google Play have to do with witchcraft?

Absolutely nothing.

But read on for a witchy update…

โ€ข Secret Project

As I said in my first Writing Update of December, I’ve started working on a fun side project this month, just to get my mind off the Kissing Monsters series and the Insomnia Saga for a bit. Without giving much away of the story (we’re speaking early phases here, so I really can’t share the plot with you guys yet; I’m so sorry!!), it has elements such as witchcraft, magical โ€” but poisonous โ€” spiders, and an intense and broody romance (the guy’s name is Dante. Need I say more?).

However, a week ago I still believed it would be a stand-alone book.

That changed drastically last weekend.

I don’t know anymore why I even bother to try and write stand-alones; I seem to be incapable of it. I wrote the plot outline for this book about 6 months ago, during the summer, and then it felt to me the story would make a solid read. And it probably would have, but… as I began working on the manuscript last week, I started seeing all these opportunities to flesh out the characters, to improve the world-building, that would make the story so much deeper and more meaningful… Also, I’ve totally fallen in love with the main characters, Alice and Dante. They’re so different from Kiss and Zane, for example, yet to me their connection feels just as strong โ™ฅ๏ธ

All of this made me decide to turn it into a series after all.

At the moment I’m thinking it will be a 4-part series, every installment slightly longer than a Kissing Monsters book โ€” the plan is between 150 – 180 pages.

SO. This means 1) I am giving up on stand-alones, because apparently I am a pathological series writer or something (is that a thing?), 2) I’m currently working on a THIRD series… I must be mad. I mean, I’m not even sure yet how I’m going to be working on three series at once, but, uhm… yeah. I’ll probably make it work, knowing me. Because I’m utterly mad. (But glad to be ๐Ÿ˜€ )

As for non-writing daily life updates…:

โ€ข Lockdown

The Netherlands officially went into lockdown yesterday, and today all schools that were still open have closed. I remember when this happened the first time in March, I felt terribly restless and anxious. I actually feel nothing of that now. Maybe I’m just kind of used to the thought that things are no longer the same?

In all honesty, it really doesn’t make a difference for me. I’ve been in preventive quarantine for nine months now โ€” to protect my family and myself โ€”, meaning I have been living inside constantly. I haven’t gone out once (okay, apart from a bike ride and a short walk). I see others complain on Facebook and Twitter that they can’t go anywhere, and that their inspiration for creative endeavors is blocked because they can’t go out and get a cup of coffee… and it’s just so strange to me. Sure, I do miss going out for my runs and walks, and I really enjoyed visiting my city’s botanical gardens and I loved going to the cinema, but to me it doesn’t feel like the end of the world if I can’t do it anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to when things will settle down a bit and I can at least go for a run (I miss those terribly), but I’ve always loved being at home โ™ฅ๏ธ

I hope, if you’re also living in quarantine and/or your country has gone into lockdown, that you’re doing well and still enjoying life ๐Ÿ˜‰ Stay healthy, stay safe!!

This wraps up the second December update! I’ll be back later this month with the release of KISSING NIGHTMARES (next week!!) as well as the annual blog post some of you are already familiar with, in which I look back and reflect at the past year ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope to see you there!

DECEMBER 2020 Writing Update #1: Passionate Monsters

DECEMBER 2020 Writing Update #1: Passionate Monsters

ย ย ย  โ€œZane?โ€

ย ย ย  Her voiceโ€”low, dark like the starry sky, soft, pleasant, kind, sweetโ€”is a tender brush against his jagged heart.

โ€” KISSING PASSION (Kissing Monsters 8) โ€”

Hi Monster Kissers~!

What does December mean to you?

The first word I always think of is magic. Perhaps it’s simply because of the Christmas decorations, especially all those tiny lights that illuminate homes and streets as soon as the sun has set; it just looks mysterious to me, a bit fairytale-like. And maybe it’s also because December marks the start of the winter, which I always find to be a mystical season as the days grow shorter and darker, the wind cold and icy as it bites into your skin, the final falling leaves brittle and colorless. It’s like a hush settles over the world, especially at night, making me imagine anything might be possible and anything could haunt the shadows…

Every year December manages to both catch me by surprise (because, suddenly, the year is coming to an end) and bewitch me, reminding me it’s all right to slow down a bit for those last few weeks of the year, helping me to dream about the things I wish to achieve in the new year, and making me reflect on the last twelve months.

However, we’ve still got an entire month before us… and I’ve already started off strong ๐Ÿ™‚

โ€ข Writing: KISSING PASSION

In November I mentioned I was working on the plot outline for KISSING PASSION, the eighth book in the Kissing Monsters series.

On December 1st, I finished it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today I have read and quick-edited the entire manuscript, fixing some final plot issues which I thought could be improved. As I am writing this post, I have just finished working on it since about thirty minutes ago. Yesterday I felt a bit dazed being done with the book, but I feel like today I’ve had the time to process it โ€” and it feels SO good โค๏ธโค๏ธ

As book 8 is the grand finale to the story, it was a rather heavy and emotional manuscript to write, possibly one of the most emotional books I have ever written ๐Ÿ˜‰ And the thing is, I can hardly share why, because book 5 will release only this month; I can’t say a thing without giving away spoilers…!

Let’s just say that all the Kissing Monsters books I have written have been an unforgettable experience. I’ve genuinely loved every single minute of it as I got to know the characters better, and the world grew and shaped itself into something I’d never could have imagined as I worked on the first book at the start of 2020.

Again, the word “magic” comes to mind…~

โ€ข And… what now?

Having finished another manuscript and having no revision work this month, I feel like it’s all right to slow down a bit. I’ve worked hard enough, achieved enough, and the new year is around the corner for more goals and opportunities. I must admit I’ve been feeling a little bit tired lately, so I don’t mind taking my foot off the pedal for a bit.

However…

(Okay, you probably saw that one coming if you’ve been following my blog for a while~)

I still can’t get enough of writing, so I have decided to work on a side project for now that doesn’t have to be finished in a certain amount of time; I’ve already written the plot outline for this book back in May or June, so I’ve been itching to work on it for several months ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m pretty excited about this story, and will tell you guys some more about it in the next update!

On that note, I’m going to wrap up this post! I’ll be blogging some more this month, so you’ll all hear from me soon with some cool new book releases, announcements, and of course the annual let’s-look-back-at-the-past-year for an overview of 2020. Considering the way this year has been… that should be interesting ๐Ÿ˜›

Wishing you all a lovely December! Can you feel the magic too?

NOVEMBER 2020 Writing Update #1: The Secrets of November

NOVEMBER 2020 Writing Update #1: The Secrets of November

Dear Monster Kissers,

After leaving October behind, we’re already rushing through the first weeks of November. I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but here in the Netherlands November has gone off on a great start โ€” every day has been peaceful and sunny, the trees are taking on every possible shade of yellow, orange, red and brown. It’s the perfect autumn weather, which this year I am enjoying from inside my home.

From where I’m sitting, on the couch in the living room where I write all of my books, I have a view on a few pine trees, and every day when the sun sets they somehow take on this reddish, almost pink shade; it’s really mesmerizing to look at and one of those small things that inspires me for my stories ๐Ÿ™‚

Now then, speaking of writing…

โ€ข Writing: KISSING SECRETS

Back in October I wrote the plot outline for the seventh book of the Kissing Monsters series, entitled KISSING SECRETS. I began working on the manuscript, but was then forced to take a break for a couple of weeks to prepare The Nocturne Files (Insomnia Saga 2.5) for its October 27th ebook & paperback release, as well as Kissing Monsters book 4’s November 17 publication.

At the start of November, however, I could finally return to the manuscript… and I was so full of energy and inspiration that I finished it in a week! Especially the ending was incredibly intense to write. I won’t give away any spoilers (there are still 3 books between this one and the last one that has been released in September), but let’s just say that a lot of twists and turns are awaiting you and that Kiss and Zane have a lot of obstacles to overcome, the poor souls~ But hey, that’s not entirely MY fault! I mean, bad things need to happen to your protagonists in order to make it an interesting story, right?

Right…?

(Sometimes I worry my characters will somehow come alive and start haunting me at night, or something. Yikes.)

โ€ข Aaaand on to… Writing: KISSING PASSION

Because why stop the flow when it’s going so great? As I was finishing up book 7, ideas for book 8 were already growing and shaping themselves into part of a plot outline. Last weekend I spent brainstorming and taking notes whenever a new idea hit me while reading a book and playing a video game (not both at once, naturally ๐Ÿ˜› ), and since Monday I’ve been working hard at writing the actual outline for the book, by first looking at how many chapters I’d need and what would happen in which.

And so, I finished the detailed plot outline this afternoon! I’m so happy with it and look forward to tomorrow, when I’ll start on the first couple of chapters (the prologue will be rather short, so I’m sure I’ll be working on Chapter One soon enough). Looking at the fact that book 8 will be the final conclusion to this story, it’s going to be an emotional experience writing it. The plot outline already promises me loads of epic moments and, of course, drama. I don’t like drama in real life โ€” but BOY OH BOY, do I love it in a book ๐Ÿ˜€

This concludes November’s first writing update! Next to writing my socks off, I’m also in the middle of editing books 5 and 6 of the Kissing Monsters series to prepare them for their 2020/2021 releases… while occasionally being blown away by the fact that the Kissing Monsters books are receiving more and more 4 and 5-starred reviews that just simply amaze me. I really couldn’t be happier โ™ฅ๏ธ

Oh, also โ€” now that Halloween is behind us, I can finally fully give in to my Christmas obsession and start looking forward to the holiday season! Since 2020 has proven to be the weirdest year ever, my family and I decided we’re bringing the festivities into our home a bit earlier than usual, meaning we’ll start decorating the house in less than two weeks!! I’m really looking forward to it ๐Ÿ˜€

Do you like Christmas?

Wishing you all a great day~!

OCTOBER 2020 Writing Update #2: My Bookish Life of Nocturnal Monsters

OCTOBER 2020 Writing Update #2: My Bookish Life of Nocturnal Monsters

Zaneโ€™s breaths quicken as he finds the angel standing across from him, his dark face eerily lit, his eyesย  turned into empty white orbs that appear to stare right through him.

ย ย ย  โ€œInside this ring of fire,โ€ he whispers, โ€œI will see all of you.โ€

โ€” KISSING SECRETS (Kissing Monsters 7) โ€”

Hi there, Monster Kissers! ๐Ÿงก

We’re already halfway October; can you believe it? Halloween is crawling closer, days are growing shorter, and temperatures are dropping โ€” already it’s the time of year to curl up on the couch at night wrapped in a blanket! Although I love lazy summer days and don’t mind warmer temperatures, I have been looking forward to these times and am enjoying it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Time for a quick update to catch you up on the last couple of weeks’ developments!

โ€ข Behind the scenes: turning manuscripts into actual books!

For the past week and a half I have been working with my awesome designer Kimberly Jolanda (who also happens to do my book covers… and to be my sister!) on turning several of my manuscripts into actual books, preparing them for their October, November and December releases.

We’ve been working super hard โ€” and fast! The work flow has been amazing and it was lots of fun ๐Ÿ˜€ Only after two days, we’d already finished the ebook and paperback edition of The Nocturne Files, which is book 2.5 in the Insomnia Saga and will release on October 27th.

After that, we powered through and made the ebook of KISSING GHOSTS (Kissing Monsters 4, which will release on November 17th) and spent several days working on the very first Kissing Monsters Collection; a paperback that will include books 1 to 4. It’s planned to be released in December; I’ll do an official release date announcement next month in November ๐Ÿ™‚

It was so amazing to see the Kissing Monsters books come to life in a “real” book! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love ebooks and don’t think less of them, but to be able to hold a physical copy of your own book in your hands, to see the words printed on paper instead of on a computer screen or on your ereader… that’s just pure magic โค๏ธโค๏ธ

โ€ข Daily life; crazy world

Although I am really enjoying life at the moment and feeling very optimistic, in the outside world things are being less… great. While it almost feels like everything is going on as normal as everyone seems to pretend it is, the pandemic is still a thing and the virus is still haunting our world.

The same goes for my country, the Netherlands. The number of cases of infected rises every single day with dizzying speed. Last I’ve heard, we’re already on 8.700 a day โ€” which is very alarming, looking at the fact that it’s practically the smallest country on earth.

For this reason, last week we went into a “partial lockdown”. And I don’t want to come across as negative or hysterical, but I’m kind of expecting we’ll be going into full lockdown pretty soon, because at this point, it hasn’t stopped the increase in victims at all.

In all honesty, it won’t make much of a difference to me. I’ve been living in preventive quarantine since March. I haven’t gone out to the cinema or a museum even once; I don’t even go out for walks or runs, which I miss the most of all, but I just don’t believe the risk is worth it. My family’s and my own health is too important; and hey, now that the holiday season is near, it’s actually kind of cozy to be inside all the time ๐Ÿ˜‰

All right, this is it for now! While staying indoors, I’m working hard on future book releases and there are many more to come! ๐Ÿ˜€ As I’m about to finish up the release preparations in the following days, I can go back to my writing next week. I’m glad for it; not being able to write for a while tends to make me feel all fidgety and even slightly agitated โ€” no matter how much I enjoy the process of designing ebooks and paperbacks! I’ve already made a schedule for November; I’ll be doing some editing, but I’ve also planned a couple of weeks in which I can write full-time on KISSING SECRETS, book 7 of the Kissing Monsters series.

And then, December: as it’s holiday month, I’ve decided to treat myself to an entire month of full-time writing, as I won’t have to edit a thing! Already looking forward to it~ โค๏ธ
