Hi. I’m Lynn Robin. Welcome to my wicked mind :)

Hello new readers and old readers, and welcome to my blog!

Well, for the new readers here, I’ll introduce myself first!:

My name is Lynn Robin, I’m an author of Dark Fantasy Upper Young Adult books, and I was raised in the historical city of Leiden in the Netherlands. It’s a bit of a cliché maybe, but I’ve been making up stories ever since I was a little girl—and as soon as I was taught how to write, I began writing those stories down and never stopped. Although I started out like any other kid, writing sweet sugary tales about talking animals in forests (yep, I did that), it didn’t take long before I started to develop an interest in darker stories, filled with witchcraft, monsters, and magic… which turned  into quite the obsession 😛

Somewhere in my teenage years I realized I wanted to be a published author someday, and after I turned 19 I started to pursue this dream. It took several years for my stories before they were turned into actual books, but in 2017 my dream finally came true: I debuted with my Dutch series “de Schimmenwereld Serie” (the Phantom World series), containing six books about ghosts, angels, demons, music, dance, and art. The first three installments were released in 2017, book 4 and 5 in 2018, and the sixth and last was published July 2019.

So… yeah, like I said, my dream to become a published author came true; but dreams are things that tend to grow and become bigger without you even realizing it, and I soon found out that publishing my works just for Dutch readers wasn’t enough for me — I want to share my stories with people all over the world.

This is why I decided to start writing in English instead, and publish my books internationally from now on 🙂

• About my books: Dark Fantasy Upper Young Adult

I’d like to explain something about the genre I write in…

I call it Dark Fantasy because I tend to add horror-like elements to my book, though horror sounds a bit too heavy for me. My fantasy stories are a little bit gritty, sometimes even a bit spooky and creepy, mostly about dark, nightmarish creatures that I would probably run from myself if I ever got to meet them in real life. (So let’s hope I never will. Though I fancy myself quite a fast runner, so maybe I’ll be fine.)

Also, I’d like to add that my books are Upper Young Adult—meaning that my characters are, most of the time, no younger than 17, and that the ages of my main characters can even reach to early twenties. I didn’t go for New Adult, since, even though I absolutely love a bit of slow-burning, broody romance, in my stories it’s just an extra story line and not the main thing everything revolves around… and well, in my experience, when most people think of NA, they tend to think of erotic romance.

So. There you have it: Dark Fantasy Upper Young Adult 🙂

• Introducing the INSOMNIA SAGA

I’m planning to release my Dutch series “de Schimmenwereld Serie” as the Phantom World series internationally in the near future, but first I’m going to debut in English with another series I’ve been working on for a couple of years now: the Insomnia Saga.

It’s an action-packed Dark Fantasy Upper Young Adult (yes) series, set in a fictional modern world, where people can wield actual Light as a weapon, which they use to fight demons called the Nightprowlers—mankind’s greatest enemy.

This is the blurb of the first book in the Insomnia Saga, INSOMNIA:

I caught my reflection in the mirror and looked at the girl staring back at me. Long, brown hair, falling over thin shoulders; tanned skin; green eyes; arms wrapped in bandages, hiding scars.

And at once, I was able to see what everybody else saw.

I had become the monster of fairytales. A creature that was feared, and had to be locked away forever.

Jodi Collins is a Sleepwalker.

An outcast. A pariah.

Five years ago, she was attacked by a creature darker than shadows, a demon without a face, a monster hungry for her body: a Nightprowler.

A nightmare that comes to life as soon as the sun sets, drenching the world in darkness.

When a Nightprowler attacks you, two things can happen: it will either claim your body to use as a host, or it will mark you as a Sleepwalker.

Sleepwalkers are feared and despised, believed to conspire with the Nightprowlers and threaten mankind.

Stigmatized by the telltale scars of the Night, Jodi and her parents were forced to move to the slums of Reid, where the alleys are filled with vagrants during the day, and Nightprowlers during the night. No school or employer would have her.

And her parents blamed her for destroying their life.

Now seventeen years old, Jodi is working for the Summoners—the worldwide army that has been battling the Nightprowlers for centuries—who hire her to defeat a Nightprowler that lures countless of victims into its castle while disguising itself as a human; a Nightprowler too dangerous for an average human to fight. It seems like it can only be defeated by another creature of the dark: a Sleepwalker.

Unable to refuse this mission and the money it will earn her, Jodi sets out to find the Nightprowler—but not on her own.

Help comes in the form of the arrogant Kay Somnus, a young Summoner disgusted by Sleepwalkers. And yet, they have to find a way to combine their forces and exorcize this Nightprowler.

Jodi’s future depends on this mission—but what does Kay expect to gain from it?

A castle of darkness and storms, filled with whispers and skulls.

Secrets will be revealed. Lives will be changed.

Neither Jodi nor Kay will ever be the same.

INSOMNIA (Insomnia Saga #1) will be released on February 11th, 2020.

• But first: an INSOMNIA SAGA free short story

To celebrate this upcoming publication, I’ll first release an Insomnia Saga short story, which will be available as a FREE eBook download! I’d love for my readers to meet and get to know the Insomnia Saga‘s heroine, Jodi Collins.

This short story takes place 4 years prior to INSOMNIA, and it’s about Jodi defeating her very first Nightprowler when she was just 13 years old, by overcoming her fears and choosing to be strong.

Why don’t you read the blurb?

“Don’t make a sound,” I whisper.

Peering through the shelves, I can’t take my eyes off the giant on the other side. It’s a creature with an oval-shaped head, a slender body, elongated arms, hands with pointy fingers, and long legs with which it takes big, silent steps.

Like a two-legged spider, hunting for its prey.

For first-time Insomnia Saga readers

A Nightprowler marked her and covered her in scars that will forever stigmatize her as an outcast:

A Sleepwalker.

A year after the attack, thirteen-year old Jodi Collins starts working for the Summoners to keep herself and her parents alive in this new, brutal life of discrimination and hate.

The Summoners are a worldwide army that have been fighting the Nightprowlers for centuries—and by working for them, Jodi will be forced to fight these creatures responsible for ruining her future.

On a dark, wintery night, Jodi is sent on a mission to find a young missing boy. The clock is ticking—if she’s too late, he will end up the same as her.

A toy store. A maze of dolls and monsters.

A world where light and darkness collide.

Jodi has to prove herself and overcome her greatest fear:

confronting the demons of the Night. And fight them.

[This short story takes place four years prior to the first book in the series, INSOMNIA.]

The Insomnia Files, File#1: JODI COLLINS (Insomnia Saga #0.1) will be released on December 10th, 2019, and will be available as a FREE eBook.

  • The eBook will also contain a sample of the first few chapters of INSOMNIA!
